I am contemplating my next car & finding it difficult to decide what to go for.
I currently have a 996 TT which to be honest is just too good. I dont fancy a GT3 & a GT2 scares me, and the 997 is a little sterile, so my current short list is as follows:

Another 996 TT, with X50 pack (seem v thin on the ground)
Ferrari 360 (Driven one, liked it a lot)
Lambo Gallardo (looks lovely but used still around £100k)
Aston AMV8 (try getting one!)

Other suggestions welcome.

I don't need rear seats, but they are handy from time to time and the car will be left in a public car park (though it is in an expensive part of outer London where every other car in there is a Porsche or suchlike !)

mmm yes the 997 Turbo will be a cracker, the Ruf on another planet I am sure.
I have a place on hold for me on a waiting list for one, but need to decide what I am doing.

IMHO you have two options:

1) Stick with the 996, and wait for the 997 to arrive....you could get a 996 X50 though you will suffer on the p/ex of your present car by doing so?

2) Mod your car via a reputable tuner, and descend the slippery slope of modifications, though you will probably end up with something quicker than a 997 turbo.

Yep I agree - the 997 TT is supposed to have around 460bhp with a X50 type upgrade to around 500bhp.

500 bhp is easy from a standard 996 TT, 550bhp if you go down the larger (x50) turbo's route.

Performance is important to me, the 360 wasn't as fast as my TT & I would suspect with "only" 380 bhp nor will the AMV8

I think you are overestimating the cost of gallardos. Have a look on the lambo forum as there was talk of them hitting 80k soon, a few months back.

360s are good value at the moment. That's the sensible choice if you like them.

Went out in Scottster's new 355 with Tubi competition system (completely straight through, real under the counter at Scuderia Systems type thing) and with the engine screaming at 8k rpm reverbing off nearby buildings, I DO see the point of Ferraris

DanH - do you know any good Lambo forums. The used Gallardo's I see are all hovering around the £100k mark, chepest so far is one at £94k at a specialist.

Domster - Yes a 360 is a strong possibility. I drove an F1 360 a couple of days ago & while performance was not as good as my 996 TT it ticked the boxes in other places (looks, sound etc) so I am still very tempted.

Or you could always get the 996tt up to 490bhp, like Rich1231 did... AmD did this for a reasonable cost (can't remember off the top of my head, but will be much cheaper than loss of selling old car/buying new car).

Yes agreed its the best option in terms of saving money.
Another thought is that 996TT's are losing money big time, and the 360's have been through that & settled, so over the next 12 months I will probably lose a lot lot less on a 360 than my current 996 TT

Silly question but why don't people keep cars longer?

I can imagine that even if I were a gazilbionaire I would still run around in my 993TT, maybe have it gold plated and missiles fitted but cannot imagine being without it!
If I had to change though, the 997gt3 would be a good place to start.

Nope, was more of a passing comment, so why not post on the lambo forum here and ask about them. Apparently they are hitting high 70k in Europe now, so theres no obvious reason for RHDs to be 30k more given the oversupply and speculators. At least thats how the logic went on the thread about them a few months ago.

OK cool will put some feelers out.
A Gallardo for around £80k would be just too tempting
