I went past a mobile speed camera van today doing about 20mph. I got a good look inside because I was going so slowly. I did not see a policeman behind the camera but I seen a large flatscreen tv with a policeman on the tv. I don’t think the image is a live recording of a policeman inside the van because the policeman was wearing the short sleeved black Lycra uniforms and today is wet and freezing. Do you think it is an image of a policeman in a remote office controlling several vans or a deterrent for motorists to think they see a policeman in the van.

I'm not sure how that would act as a deterrent. By the time they see that it's only a picture of a Policeman on a TV (and not an actual Policeman) they will be well past the point at which they might have been caught speeding.

Also the SCV won't have driven itself to that location. It must have had a Policeman drive it there in the first place. it would seem odd that a Policeman drives the van there, gets out and goes somewhere else after ensuring that there's a TV displaying a picture of a PC confused

This is odd and interesting, my local scheme has people in it, they arrive, never seem to get out, then leave when distracted and upset a few people.

Perhaps its just a nice PC screen you saw, with a police screensaver or something, Could you tell if it was it flat to window, or along the inside long wall of the van?

I know it’s sounds strange. 100% I seen a large flat screen tv inside the van with an image of a policeman.

I approached the van facing the back doors and seen the camera. As I passed by I looked inside where the camera window was open. It was a minimum of a 32 inch flat screen where the partition is that decides the van and the cabin area.

On the screen there was a policeman wearing short sleeves moving about like at a desk.

If only they did, utter stupid mentality of some of them, omg, 35 at the 30MPH sign, slowing to 28 before the footpath and driveways in a smooth engine break I watched you start with no one around in perfect conditions a mile away with this scope, must report that. Even though I watch you pull into that first drive, where I commonly see that car parked.

Good job that van parked next door today is also there, as it's commonly all the way down here for some reason, after I did the same to them months ago. Wonder why.

It is strange tbh, perhaps a van man will explain, could have been a training video, skype, or as you say, something for public to catch a glimpse of as they drive past for impression it's in service if having a break or something.

I’m sorry to hear you broke your engine.

Will you be able to fix it?

The van was in Strathyre on the A84 in wet wet Scotland. The drive today was a waste of time. Better if I had a speedboat.

Now I've tried really hard, but I don't understand a word of that. Is it you or me?

I don't know why the camera van was doing 20mph. Perhaps it's a new tactic?

Indeed, I generally just move on by your posts, not sure why I bothered to try to understand that one.

I spotted the van in a 30mph village and cruised passed really slowly. I had a look at the camera and there was no officer behind camera which left a space for me to look inside the van. There was clearly a large monitor or tv screen. I would have r expected to see an image of the road and traffic etc but it was an image of a police officer sitting at a desk. It could have been an image of the officer inside the van sitting at a desk or work station in the van but why record and show that on the monitor???
