Engine bay rubber - what does it do?
Discussion
Noticed I've got some thin (rubber?) sheeting stuff expertly cable-tied  to the chassis top rails where it is tight up against the body. I'm assuming this is to stop squeaking? or is it more technical than that? and any sensible suggestions as to what I can use in its place as the stuff has been cooked into biscuit-like consistancy!!
Just guessing - but looks likely to have been an anti-resonance measure? Maybe to stop the 'vibes' from the engine and gearbox being passed into the fibreglass bodywork? Would have said replace with rubber doormat type material but not sure how it would stand up to exhaust heat?. I'm sure someone here will have done a body off restoration and will have a good solution...?
