Has anyone here used one of those companies claiming they can get you a refund? I keep getting contacted by them and wondering if it’s worthwhile.

I have joined the action in relation to a claim being made against Ford, they asked lots of questions and requested proof of purchase/purchase price.

Every now and then I get an email update, but no hint of any cash!

I tried a different firm who sent me an email a few days back regarding the vehicle that replaced the Ford, but the time scale is wrong for that one, so they tried the potential PCP thing that's the latest one...but I was a cash buyer!

Is this the one where the emissions weren't as good as they claimed so now you can sue someone and get some free money?

Does this mean all those drivers now owe unpaid VED/Tax because they have been underpaying it based on the manufactures white lies?

I leased the car in question in (I think) 2009 for just 2 years. That’s a very long time ago and no way will I have any proof or paperwork.

Sounds ridiculous to me.

Can we sue those people who knowingly drove cars that polluted excessively?

Surely if they cared enough to try and claim from the manufacturers then they should have stopped driving them.

I got one and of the £1k settlement I got £200 after fees and no-win-no-fee insurance.... It was a leased car I'd given back six years earlier and I only did it because I was bored in lockdown on furlough with a lot of free time.

I'm not entirely sure what the basis of loss for the payout was, I lost nothing financially and I was in the car not breathing in the emissions.

They have not been underpaying as VED is based on CO2 emissions whereas the lies were around NOx emission values.

You'd better hope they don't lose the case.

And of course every motorist chooses a car based on its advertised NOx emissions and have suffered severe trauma and financial loss as a result.

Meanwhile, no EV gets near it’s advertised mileage and everybody is happy.

True but also no ICE car gets near its advertised mpg either.

Haha no, this is all about a quick cash grab fuelled by greedy solicitors. All it will do is put the price of new cars up as makers recover margin.

It's immorality based on a technicality.

This shows who's really benefitting from these claims.

Not being aware of the losses that diesel drivers deserve compensation for, I had a look at one of the lodge-your-claim web sites.

Apparently, the higher NOx levels harmed the environment (so why just compensate the car owner?), fuel and maintenance bills might have been higher (really?), and performance was negatively affected (again, really?).
