I am wondering what the British Pistonheads think about these things;
How much life do you get from your O2 sensors and what manufacturer do you use when you change them?
Is the Check Engine Light a common problem in Briton?
How much non OEM products do you use?
How much work do you do yourself?
Are you able to find OEM products at a fair price not the horribly inflated prices?
£650 or more seems like a lot for an oil change? I provide the oil and a specialist does the work for under $300. Are you able to get the same work for about the same price?
Thanks for the information in advance.

1. 14 years so far. Not yet needed to be changed.
2. Never seen it on. (Great Britain)
3. None as far as I know.
4. I clean the car.
5. I think some parts are common with other makes, so therefore cheaper. Look on the front page of this AM forum.
6. My servicing is done by a good independent garage. As well as an oil/filter change, they carry out an extremely thorough inspection of my Vantage to detect faults. Even spot a few minute blemishes, which surprises me. Therefore, I don't consider their charge unreasonable. The additional 20% going to the government is not good though, because too much of that money is wasted.
Is it the same wherever you are based?
Do you race a single seater ?
The prices at the dealers are expensive maybe a little more than GB but the good independent shops are harder to find unless you are in a bigger metro area.
I search the web high and low for interchangeable parts and the best price on anything and everything. Castrol products are hard to get except oil. I use Motul brake fluid at around 1/4 the price of Castrol and Redline gear oil for under 1/2 the cost of Castrol. I know new shocks/dampers are $2400 or so apiece. But there is a place that rebuilds the for less than 1/2 the cost of a new one. Also there is a place in the state of Kentucky that will rebuild your clutch for 1/3 or so the cost of a new one using Kevlar clutch face material.
But the killer here is the AMDS no one has them but dealers and very few Indy shops. The closes dealer is 2 hours away and they have nothing but problems and cost way to much.

A: changed 3 over 83k miles in first Vantage, never changed one yet in 70k miles in current car. Just bought some generic off ebay at the time and they worked fine
Is the Check Engine Light a common problem in Briton?
A: hard to say how common, but only ever had it when my O2 sensors were failing
How much non OEM products do you use?
A: brake pads, discs, tyres
How much work do you do yourself?
A: basic diagnostics (OBDII) brake discs, pads, easy sensor changes , spark plugs, battery change, minor cosmetic fixes ....nothing that requires a ramp
Are you able to find OEM products at a fair price not the horribly inflated prices?
A: not too bad from online sources and list of alt parts database is growing

A: We do have a good network of specialists, but no Aston Martin specialists are at the $300 level here, I could get a local generic auto shop to do it for that.

If you ever require cheap alloy wheel repairs, I know just the firm who can help.
