A watch is a very personal choice, depending on your own taste and style, which only you can decide upon.
There are too many factors for anyone else to suggest anything to you.
Digital?
Analogue?
Date?
No date?
GMT?
Single time zone?
Plastic?
Gold?
Stainless?
Dress watch?
Dive watch?
Wearing for work?
Wearing for casual?
Waterproof?
Swiss?
Japanese?
British?
Simple?
Complicated?
Stopwatch?
etc

Best value, probably a £100 g shock - will last for decades and be 100% reliable and indestructible.
Any else is not for reasons of value.
Yes.Any else is not for reasons of value.
If literally all you care about is telling the time, and want absolute maximum value, then as below, a £100 Casio G Shock is probably a good idea, and then spend the leftover money on changing the battery every 5-6 years.
As you've said up to £1000, I'm thinking you might fancy something a little more special. I'd likely opt for a second hand watch from a reputable dealer. In most cases, someone else has taken the initial depreciation hit, and in some cases you'll find the watch looks like new. If watches have been in collections, there's a chance it hasn't been worn much.
Second hand for £1K? I'd look at Oris. Maybe Glycine? Doxa, Longines, Tissot, Alpina ... A Sinn 556 brand new is £95 over budget, but some places will have 10% off deals etc. That's a strong choice, providing you like the look of the watch! If you're after a recognisable name and don't care about movements, a second hand TAG Heuer F1 would be in budget.
I'd highly recommend surfing the www.jurawatches.co.uk website, as well as Chrono24, and see what styles/models appeal to you.

Value doesn't automatically mean cheap chaps. A plastic quartz watch for £100 is hardly value when you can buy something similar for <£5 on AliExpress?
My choice for £1k. Fantastic build quality, great bracelet, in house movement.

Another good choice.

Both can be found for <£1k if you shop around.
I you dolt mind quartz the original Longines Conquest is a great peice of kit and very good value at the minute.

£1000? You can get 100 of these for a grand. Certainly better VFM than anything else;

I agree, but in the absence of absolutely any steer whatsoever from the OP, as to what sort of what watch he wants... Suggesting anything is pretty much fruitless I would have thought. A watch is such a personal choice. He would be better off going to a shopping centre which contained a few jewellers, and just browsing the watches until he found a style he liked, then go from there.
If he said that he really liked, for example, an Omega Seamaster, then at least we could then look at suggesting watches that looked and functioned similar to a Seamaster.

Just throw up a few option and see what he likes? All just a bit of forum fun at the end of the day so no need to take it quite so seriously I'd suggest? For £1k you could have a nice little collection of 2 or three watches to suit your needs. Perhaps everyday usability that could go with everything from jeans and trainers to a business suit and Oxfords, I'd go (and have) Seiko SRPE51 (DressSK).

Divers watch on a nice Nato would have to be a Seiko SKX007/009 or Spinnaker Fluess (again, own both and great watches).

I'd then plump for a Casioak to finish off the budget for something a bit tough and rugged for when you are at the gym/cycling/playing football/gardening/DIY/etc. (Don't currently own one of these - next on my list though)

Or go microbrand with something car themed (this is Pistonheads after all!) and I've got a few MHD watches, Matthew Humphries Design. He's the ex-Head of Design at Morgan.

But if it has just to be one, I'd go either Seiko or Longines. Both excellent brands with a good history and great watches that don't attract the wrong attention. Those that know, will know.

Depends on what you want to use it for? If it's a single watch for say formal / informal wear, can't go wrong with a Sinn 556 I and a mixture of straps. Don't want to spend more, I am very lazy
Male by the way.
Or a Tissot PRX automatic (Or equivalent)

Heard some good things about these.
Some familiar designs but nice looking watches.

Bought. Let's see how good it is then, when it gets here!https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005631124086.h...

And while you're all at it, what's the best vehicle for under £30K ?
I'm too lazy to explain what type of driving I like, what type of license I have, how far I'll be going each day, & how many passengers / how much stuff I need to carry.
I have two arms.
[Sits back & waits for some sparkling wit to say MX5.]

I’m hoping the OP won’t be too lazy, and will to return to this thread and tell us which of the suggested watches he likes?

Lots of good answers here.
Thank you :-)
I like the idea of getting a few at a cheaper price.
The Trouble for me is I buy a more expensive watch, I won't take off when I need to.
For example when I wash up etc.
I have inherited this from my Father who liked to decorate in his watch.
Thank you :-)

Obviously, it's entirely up to you, but you could purchase a tool watch (like the Sinn 556) and embrace the scuffs, scratches and marks. My Omega Planet Ocean (2500D) has been smashed about in server cabinets, various metal cases, taken snorkelling etc. I'm not protective of it; the marks show it's been worn. I didn't buy it to sit in a safe or drawer The Trouble for me is I buy a more expensive watch, I won't take off when I need to.

Also, it doesn't matter whether you spend £100 or £100,000; you're bound to scratch the watch over time. I've read threads where people despair over their first scratch on their new Rolex. It's mad! Don't worry about it. Just enjoy wearing your watch!
But if it does worry you, then get a G Shock or something!
