I've been to Le Mans nearly every year since '88. It's always been a top weekend, but I'm getting a bit bored/blase about it now. I do enjoy a petrolhead trip away but I'm looking to try something different. Top of my list of alternative venues is the Historic Grand Prix at Pau in the South of France. Easily accesible via Easyjet or by a nice long drive down South.
Can any PH'er recommend other events that are worth a long weekend away?
Cheers.

Except for the cars it's not much different to LM. Spa 24 Hours has at least the GT cars but it's a lot more relaxed.

25 Hour Fun Cup at Spa anyone ?

Indy 500 or Brickyard 400 and/or combine with a dragrace.

Belgian GP, Monaco GP.

You could try those Val de Vienne (sp) classic races, at places like Dijon, Pau, Paul Ricard, etc. Only thing you can guarantee at the Ring 24hrs is that it'll be pissing rain. All weekend...

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming.
Spa in the rain, I know it well. Was there in '98, sat near the Bus Stop chicane, got very wet, but Damon Hill won so it was worth it and how I laughed as Schuey went by on 3 wheels after taking DC up the rear. I did get sunburnt there the following year though, sat on the embankment at Pouhon. I think DC won that one. The antics in the campsites in Spa definately rival those at Le Mans.

Bugger, I just realised that I've missed the Brighton Speed Trials again. I really must get a p.a to sort my life out.

This Saturday isn't it? Bit far from me though...

The Goodwood revival is a great meeting - how about go for the whole weekend - plus there are some great pubs in that part of Sussex

Yes you're right, it's this Saturday but I still can't make it. I'm going to a donkey sanctuary with my mum

Another good continental event is the Spa 6hrs. The headline race is for historics, and there are plenty of support races, both modern and historic. Entrants from all across Europe and plenty of Brits add to the atmosphere.

This year's event is in a couple of weekend's time.

I'll second that - went last year for the first time and it was incredible. It was free then - this year you'll have to pay a whopping 10 Euros for the entire weekend. Can't wait!
