Has anyone had any experience of the icarsoft or Foxwell diagnostics tools ? I’m after a diagnostics tool that works on multiple vehicles that will read codes, display live data, and have special functions such as throttle adaption, battery coding, brake rewind etc.

The icarsoft CR PRO+ is around £295 from a couple of vendors (all of whom claim to be official UK importers for icarsoft), including Diagnostics World, who have a YouTube channel.

The icarsoft PRO+ ticks most of the boxes and unlike many of the similar tools (autel, x-tools etc) has free updates for life. The other one that seems similar in terms of functionality (and lifetime updates) is the Foxwell NT630, but this is more expensive at £389 (but with my son’s trade car I could get 20% off).

With all these tools, it seems a bit hit and miss on whether the special functions are supported on all vehicles.

I’m also a bit wary of many of these diag tools as they often get glowing YouTube reviews, but I have a suspicion that some of these youtube reviews are paid by the company to endorse and promote their product.

Many of these tools have clones out there too; Autel, which seem to be widely used have loads of companies selling them on Amazon, but a lot of these units look to be clones. Buying the Foxwell from Halfords would hopefully mean it’s a genuine unit.

Cheers

Thats why ive never bought an Autel as most of them are clones on Amazon, i believe they work ok though but ive never taken the risk.
Updates can be expensive for just a home user but you dont have to do them as the tool will still work ok, obviously its beneficial to do them now and again.
I have an icarsoft cr pro and a foxwell tool both of which have been good for me, i dont think they are in depth enough to do coding etc.
I think if i was branching out i may look at the Topdon tools as ive seen some respected diag guys on you tube using them successfully.
Another that looks good is the thinktool pro.
There isnt really a one size fits all product but some of the higher end ones certainly do most features.

I have the iCarsoft CR v2.0. I do not know the difference between the 2.0 and pro. But, it has paid for itself many times over.

When Porsche wanted $5k to change the brakes, I used it to retract the parking brake when I changed the parts, saving $4k. When my wife's car had a miss fire, it provided the error message that pointed to the part which I was able to buy at a fraction of the price the dealer would charge and replace in minutes. There are many other examples that I can't recall right now.

I've got the icarsoft euro one as we have a disco, caddy and Clio and it's been used on my old Merc ml. It's diagnosed loads of crap with them, I've used live data on all 3 of them (steering squib, abs, injectors and glow plugs) I've used it on a couple of transits that I was looking to buy, live data on the injectors..

Work has a proper snap on tool, I've yet to find something mine won't do that I need the snap on for, I don't even know if there is a difference.

The only thing that I've never bothered to try on it is that coding stuff where you can change the way indicators flash and stuff, I've not plugged it into anything that has those options as far as I know.

The unit feels light and basic but I've dropped it quite a bit and it hasn't even got a mark on it. It's got a micro SD card in it with the program, I haven't looked at it but I'm guessing it's copyable so there might even be the full pro program out there on a dodgy download.

Bought mine from diagnostics world

I've got an icarsoft Pro Max. It's has never had an issue diagnosing stuff and resetting things as well as service functions.

Like the user above, I've used live data on my L322 suspension to diagnose an intermittently faulty suspension sensor and rest faults.

I wanted a free for life updates machine so I steered away from an Autel.

Just remembered that I've done an abs bleed on the Clio and told the stop start caddy that I've put a new battery in it

Google shows threads of people using it on mercs and BMW's, I haven't tried as only the disco has parking sensors and it's one of the few things that work on it hehe

I can read them but not reset them on my wife's 2022 Audi.

Thanks for all the replies. The icarsoft unit seems a bit more modern than the Foxwell, but I'm sure they're both very capable.

I think updates are probably easier too with the icarsoft unit, rather than having to use a laptop to to the update.

I had an icarsoft for my Merc, brilliant bit of kit, sold it for pretty much what I paid for it when I got shot of the Merc. With hindsight I should have bought a better more generic version which I would have kept.
