There was recently a Vector RS Camera installed near my place of work:

I stupidly drove towards the camera around 37MPH and then saw it several metres away and slowed to 30MPH.

Anyone know what the detection range is on these things?

I did find a couple of calibration certificates and this stood out:

Device Distance to Notional Stop Line: (m) 27

Also I found a technical document:

Installation 25-35m from stop line, 4-6m installed height, up to 12.8m lane offset from furthest lane centreline

Not much information online around range, been searching for hours. Is the stop line the detection point?

Anyone know? Thanks

Not very helpful, but I think I was done by one of these this morning: it replaced an older camera for traffic going the other way, and I’ve only just found out these new things cover both directions…

Yes, yes: silly me.

They only cover both directions if they are set up with both in their field of view.

May be a pedantic statement, I know but they don't necessarily have to be set up as such.

I shall take any glimmer of hope I can!

I'm curious if these have a Processing Unit and Storage Device in the bottom of the pole? Go on, find out for me. biggrin

What are these? Speed cameras? Average or point camera? Radar/lidar? Ground loop?

VECTOR SR Range / Distance - 27m - 35m. [SOLVED]

Ok, quick update for anyone who thinks they may have been caught by these cameras.

This is a POINT camera, although I believe that they can be used as average speed camera's with more than 1 unit.

It seems the workable range is 27m-35m from the camera.

These are two way cameras, and work in the dark using IR. They can see across 3 lanes.

I went back to the site for a look and it has a painted dot grid on the road exactly 27 metres from the camera, this is consistent with the calibration certificates I see for these VECTOR SR cameras online. Also the tech spec sheet.

Hopefully anyone searching for this in future will see this post.

VECTOR SR Range / Distance - 27m - 35m.

Well today was day 14, and I’ve not had anything through the post.

Does that mean I’m in the clear..?
