OK, lawn's a bit of an optimistic description as it's more of a field at the moment, but I noticed yesterday that one area had a series of these holes in it. About 3/4" diameter, no sign of any trails or droppings nearby so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what they could be.

More or less perfectly round, it looks like someone has been hollow tining it.

Baby Graboids.., leave now before you're up to the eyes balls in ass blasters and fully grown adults..lol.

On a serious note, that looks more like a stick or something had been forced into the ground, rather than something digging out. Certainly no real signs in the picture of earth being piled up etc.

Filled the hole, come back and check in a day or two.

Woodpecker. We have a green woodpecker that likes to leave marks like that in our lawn.

Field mouse ?
Had similar in our garden previously,
the mouse would appear run around then fall asleep on the lawn for a few minutes then awake and repeat.

Very vole like, get them a lot like that at my allotment, I've seen them running about, cool little things.

Possible but we haven't seen a woodpecker in months, & they'd probably head for the bird feeders if they were around.

Nope. Just planted loads of new trees down there last month. It wasn't me & I'm sure I'd have noticed them at the time, so it's something new.

It's nailed to the fence biggrin

Definitely not, too irregular plus it'd take more than a hollow timer to improve the drainage down there . . .

Holes look too small, plus they're out in the open which doesn't seem ratlike behaviour.

Voles - Now we're talking. Pics elsewhere on t'net look about right. If it is them I'm not too bothered - it'll give the kestrels something to chase. Maybe it's time for a wildlife camera scratchchin

Next question - when it comes to voles vs moles, which will win?
