DVLA cancelled tax
Discussion
Strange one. I was trying to add my private plate online but it wouldn't work. Upon checking it showed I had no vehicle tax. I bought the car in December and taxed it the day I bought it. I phoned DVLA who said they can see it's taxed and it's been a human error that it's been cancelled, they can rectify it but it can take 3-6 weeks, in the meantime I'm okay to drive but I can't put my private on and until its rectified.
I suggested that I just tax my car again so I can put the plate on but they said I can't do that as that would confuse the system with it being taxed twice.
Where do I stand?

Normally you can Sorn and Tax online in minutes, why would it take so long to fix it, I really wonder about the DVLA some times.I suggested that I just tax my car again so I can put the plate on but they said I can't do that as that would confuse the system with it being taxed twice.

And what happens if you "confuse the system", does it suddenly explode?

The DVLA can rectify it but it can take 3-6 weeks, in the meantime you are okay to drive but you can't put your private on until its rectified. If some inattentive person can tap keys in the office and cancel his tax, they can put it right within 24 hours as a priority if at all considerate, the database can clearly be changed near instantly by people online, it shouldn't take more than two minutes for any competent person, nor would any manager worth their wage fail to deal with it promptly unless unfit for the role/cause of such inept staff and consideration in the first place, and perhaps that is where the issue is.
I would also note that you may well have issues taking your plate off again if you wish to sell the car within 5 years. My wife and I have lost 3 plates this way (only cheap ones so no worries). I was able to put them on online okay, but only able to remove them manually filling in the paperwork, which can take up to six weeks, not good if the car is going within 3 days.
Update. I phoned the next day. The woman I spoke to said I think the agent you have spoken to has got confused. You will receive a tax refund in 3-6 weeks but you need to tax your car immediately as it's untaxed. She said you can't assign your plate online but you can do it by post. 12 days later all sorted.
