Ingenious, but I dont see the point, for it to be any use, you need to know the scamera is there. If you know the scamera is there, why not just slow down for the scamera, then speed up again.

I liked the revolving plates on James Bond's DB4 better.

Somehow I feel they would've been more effective mounted on a slightly less conspicuous car though.

If something like that could be tied into a GPS camera locator system like Geodesy where it automatically flips your plate on a camera site then you might have a winner.

Wouldn't it be easier just to stick a random number plate on the back?

no plates at all would be better as it's only £30 per plate, as opposed to £1,500 per 'modified' plate

I can't believe this has gone uncorrected for 12 hours, and on a motoring site!

It was a DB5.

I too think that that particular device would stand out, but I also think that an effective device could be made that wouldn't stand out.

I actually think that if you spent the right kind of money, it would be possible to produce a combination of devices that would render just about any form of motor related identification/conviction useless, on an every day basis.

The biggie is the helicopter, and that would require considerable forward planning, but I still think that even that could be done.

What amazes me is that I find myself considering these issues, in any detail at all. I guess I'm becoming a lawless outsider. What I can't figure though, is that I have no particular desire to take from anyone, impose my will, or upset them. How did I end up like that?

Edited to add;

Perhaps I shouls start a thread......

Help... I'm becoming a Chav.

To paraphrase a famous aphorism..

Some people are born criminals, some aspire to be criminals, and some have criminality thrust upon them.

For a normal camera you're right, but a device like this would be perfect for a Specs type system; flip the plate up as you pass the first camera, then flip it back down and proceed at whatever speed you like.

The powers that be do seem determined to criminalise vast swathes of otherwise law abiding people.

Besides which, theyre' a bit to visible on car
as yet.

If they could be made, less prominent say, theyd be common

I've always thought that the chap (or chapess) that statrted marketing LCD number plates would be onto a winner. Imagine, two buttons, 1 for randomised plate, the other for reset to original. However, you would have to make sure that you vehicle was not identifiable in any other way, i.e. the Pistonheads sticker would have to go!

the answer is not to mess around with the plates but to register the car in a ficticous name and address. you need to figure out how to keep hold of the V5 so that you can get the car taxed (which you'll pay in cash of course). then you can wander through cameras whenever you want. you can pick up parking tickets like they are going out of fashion and have free day trips to London.

all safe in the knowledge that Willy Wonker of 1 Chocalate Way will be getting all your tickets.

and if you get pulled by plod - "i bought this car off some guy in the pub couple a nights ago....."

Yep. Drive down a road at 35mph 10 years ago and everyone is happy. Do exactly the same thing now and suddenly you're a child-killer.

Re helicopter, a SAM missile would be satisfying but twin Vickers guns in swivel-mounting as per the LRDG would be a better test of skill I feel (and cheaper!)

If I had to get to somewhere in a real hurry, and it was an extreme emergency - serious life or death stuff, and I knew there would be Specs / Scameras en route, the plates would be coming off pronto

The raster from Toxteth gave me 'his girlfriends' address to put on the V5 when I sold my old Cavalier CDi to him.

I suspect he had no driving licence and that his trainers cost more (retail) than he paid for the car.

If you look on the DVLA website you can find out that currently it's niether taxed nor sorned.
