i was reading in MCN(Motor Cycle News) today that Rossi could be and is very likely to be joining the Ferrari F1 team in 2007,what are others opinions on the matter?, on a bike he is un touchable but how do you think he will fare if he makes the move to F1?, personally i think it would be a huge loss for motorcycle racing if he goes and i dont think he would be in contention for the championship anytime soon, get fed up and go back to winning in Moto GP.

Apparantly the first time he drove a Formula One car around the Ferrari Circuit he was within 2 secs. of the lap record !!!

i thought it was within 2 secondsof Schuis time (most probably the lap record anyway lol) but i think its those last few 10ths of a sec its the hardest to get, either way i dont think he will be competitive in F1 there are guys there that have got tons more experiance and knowledge, he should stick to what he clearly has a natral(sp?) talent for.

Mansell did similar going to Indy cars - totally different discipline. Rossi will do well I'm sure!

Errr no it isn't. If anything it was a massive retrograde step, to cars that bore more relation to those he drove in F1 at the beginning of his career. OK so he'd not driven a car on an oval before but that's about all that he had to learn other than the circuits and to remember always to mention his team whenever he was interviewed (Dan Wheldon is particularly good at that craft!).

Whoever posted about the tenths was spot on. Making up that gap takes a lot of experience. No doubt Rossi is up against it big time here but he's never shirked a challenge yet has he?

i dont think it will be that big a loss to the moto gp world to be honest. he has nothing to prove. he brought the yamaha up to a point where it is now on a par to the honda and he can beat the rest with consumate ease. He has made Sete look silly on a number of occasions this year.

given all the talk of Kimi and Schumi swapping at the end of 2006, i doubt Kimi would appreciate someone like Rossi being in the same team. only one of these rumours is true, i cannot see Rossi and Kimi in the sme team so would believe that Ferrari would go for Rossi given the frequesnt testing rumours. It does make sense of the Massa signing though. Good safe number two in the team who will rack up some points whilst Rossi becomes the darling of the Tifosi. Massa can get a good grounding in 2006 and learn his place as number two....

I think that Ferrari only took up their Massa option when they realised that Barrichello was off to BAR. I don't deny that they probably had Massa in the wings courtesy of Nicolas Todt, but would they have signed him on a one year deal and dumped Barrichello (this a team that thrives on consistency?) I don't think so.

for Rossi to test for Ferrari once a month next year will be very difficul, firstly he has to concentrate on holding on to his world championship in Moto GP then there is testing and improvment to the current Yamaha M1 then there is developing a new 800 cc bike for the 2007 rule changes, if he does go to F1 then good luck to him, but i would prefer him to stay in Moto GP until the end of 2007 to see how he does on a 800cc bike, also going from undisputed champion of your sport to average guy in the pack i think will not sit well with him.

I can't ever see Rossi racing the red cars. But if he does ever get that far, I don't expect the sort of stunts that he pulls in MotoGP (chickens on the back of his bike etc.) will go down too well if he tries to do similar in F1.

I'm not so sure - there's nothing the Tifosi would like better than to see a bit of fun injected into Ferrari. To me, Ferrari's willingness to allow Rossi to test to his heart's content smacks a bit of desperate hopes that he will make the grade. I'm not so sure he can but really hope he does. I'd love to see him in F1.

Rossi will be pulling donuts after the race! Guaranteed! Why can't they do this anymore!

I've only seen it a couple of times, but it was quality watching a driver burning his wheels out at the end of a race with an elegantly executed donut and burnout pullaway!

Aside from the perceived safety issues, the engine regs. now don't cater for such mechanical abuse. Drivers are more concerned with saving engines, and fuel (more weight for the post race checks) and picking up rubber from the track, rather than laying it down.

I think they still do it in some US formulae, and the fines don't seem to put people off that much.
