Then stop over in a Premier Inn the night before, get Hoppa bus in the morning to a Terminal of your desire.

Mrs BC & I often fly early from terminal 5. We stay at the Sofitel right in the terminal. There’s the added advantage of BA twilight check in so no need to take the baggage to our room.

Fair pt. You might win there, except for the minor caveat of any time at CdG…

Airport hotel the night before for any flight before 7 or 8am is my general rule these days. Ideally one within walking distance of the terminal.

Really does take the sting out.

LAX at 3pm on a Friday is like trying to find your car keys in a bucket of dog sh*t.

Made worse as my mrs decided to need to throw up after a 2 hour wait in the line for passport control.

If you are flying from Terminal 4, there is a Crown Plaza and Holiday Inn express connected by an air bridge. 5 min walk to check-in.

To be fair, nothing is open at 5 am in Heathrow. Though the earliest departure from LHR is 06:00. Most eateries open around 05:30. The plus side is that you usually get airside in 20 mins or less.

I used to work in Heathrow area peaknhour traffic wasn't that bad, I've definitely seen worse. Someone above mentioned LAX... Never seen World Way without a traffic jam.

I had many years of being at Heathrow and T5 at 5am on a Monday with the prospect of arriving back late on Friday and facing the M40 Death race antics coupled with the roadworks being setup and idiots blasting through the red X lanes at 3 figure speeds hoping to jam their way in as close to the cones as possible. Though the M40 antics wasn't Heathrow's fault.

First trip through T5 was the first week it opened. Late Friday return flight was mega delayed, everything shut, buses to car parks had stopped, you had to phone up to try and get one to rock up, in the end had to cadge a lift from the wrong bus.

Easily the worst European airport I've been to.

However as much as I despise Frankfurt, American airports are worse and they're not a patch on how bad Australian airports are.

International or Hahn? I’ve not had the pleasure of international, but I concur Hahn is a dump.
