Best replacement 2006 Mini GP Exhaust

As per title. I am just wondering whether people have just stuck with the OEM back box or moved to something else. The pipe exiting from the OSR box has broken and I would like to replace it with something. I don't want anything loud or booming so maybe OEM is best. Ideally I just want to replace the rear section.

Any pointers appreciated

Don't know this for a fact, but I wouldn't think OE is an option anymore.

I think all GP specialist parts are out of production from that era.

Well I have ordered a Milltek resonated exhaust and then popped into BMW/Mini to ask about the OEM replacement. Apparently an OEM one is special order from Germany and was some £1300 ish whilst the Milltek resonated was £673 including fittings to put it together. I also ordered some new bolts for the mounting plate centre section as it is probably original and looks super rusty.

Well the Milltek resonated exhaust is fitted and the take aways from the whole thing (done on my drive with ramps - not ideal) are:-

- I torqued the front and rear flange bolts to 20 Nm (17mm and 15 mm) - very little info found on this even on the Milltek online instructions.
- The Milltek clamp holding the pipes that fit into each other (beautifully I might add) was too big and I have been in touch with the supplier although exhaust paste and the tight fit may be enough.
- It is definitely worth replacing the centre tray and rubber mounts along with the 13mm (x6 and x2) bolts that go with it
- The nuts and captive bolts holding the rear rubber mounts are very stiff and difficult to undo and it's probably worth replacing the nuts and the rubber mounts.
- The plastic 10mm nuts holding the rear splash tray (under the boot battery) are also worth replacing as they rounded on undoing and so had to be removed with moll grips

The stainless steel system is beautiful and extremely well manufactured. It's just a shame about the clamp being the wrong size.

Hi Pip, quick uninitiated question as you've been through this now. What is the difference between a resonated and non-resonated Milltek exhaust in terms of sound/noise/drone?

Also, where did you source yours?

Apologies for the delay. In short a resonated exhaust has centre box (between the engine and the tail pipes) that has baffling to make the exhaust a bit quieter (see picture attached). A non resonated will be without the central box so noisier. Some like all the noise but on a long journey my worry would be the droning noise which you can sometimes get on 'sports' exhausts.

The only real issue I had was the clamp for the mid-section was the wrong size although the pipes were like a tailored suit and I was able to use the car without. I think it wa three days later Milltek sent me the correct clamp.

Ps the centre bolts did come loose so I had to jack her up and sort that and have since tried loctite (although I read it may not work for high temperatures). We shall see.
