A car near me is SORN and parked on the public road. Not causing a real nuisance aside from taking a valuable parking space (much contested around here) and leaking oil. It's not been driven as far as I can tell but must have been driven there when it arrived a month or two ago.

I like to comply with the law myself so am tempted to report it... but should I just mind my own business?

I can't help you with your dilemma but I cannot personally imagine a set of circumstances that would have me use up valuable lifetime in searching for which cars are or aren't sorn'd.

They likely skint and have no drive, take pity on them.

One of mine shows no MOT for many years, local officer posted me a letter to put in window as he got sick of telling people it is all in order. laugh

Me neither. Who are these people you refer to?

Yes that is what I was thinking (skint/pity). Thanks for your thoughts.

Sounds like someone Sorn'd and parked it up rather than cloned to me.

Owner likely walks past regularly, pops air in tyres, maybe keeps battery sweet giving it a 10 min run every fortnight.

Could fold a mirror in/out, put a stone next to tyre, and on roof to see if situation is corrected, try some sellotape on door to see if opened if your really keen.

Or pop a note on it, warning DVLA come round often and if Sorn car is on-road it will be clamped.

Yeah thanks. Think you’re right. I’ll just ignore it.

I'd report it, especially if it's causing parking issues etc.

Report it. I pay my fair share so should everyone else. If they're skint, they should sell it.

Agreed. If it's SORN it shouldn't be parked on the road - everybody knows that by now as the rule has been around long enough.

I presume once you've put in the details, it'll ask where it is. smile

I'd only report it if
A) it was in a dangerous place.
B) it was owned by someone I didn't like and was known to be a complete
C). I didn't like the colour or make. wink
Apart from that I couldn't give a st.
Tbh I've only done it once and it was under the B) criteria as he was taking the place an old lady parked her car outside her house( yes I know you don't own the road outside where you live)and she very upset by his actions when he said I can park where I like and you can fk off.
Tbf it wasn't SORNED but no tax or mot so O/T

Yes the only real issue for me is it is taking a rare space around here that some old folk use and if it's not available they have a long trudge uphill that they can't manage. One has said it's time for her to move as she can't manage without easy parking and this is the final straw. I'm still torn as it may well be just some kid with a car they're trying to do up and not aware of the rules... or someone who doesn't care as the rules don't apply to them!

Dear Owner,

So that you may avoid clamping/towing.,

A Sorn car on-road will be clamped/towed by authorities.

Some residents are inconvenienced and I hear its been reported.

Best Wishes.
Then report if isn't shifted reasonably quickly. biggrin
