Which DOT 4brake fluid?

Time for a brake fluid change, and there's a pretty wide price range. For road use, is there much point in spending more than around £10-12 a litre?

God no. Just buy some Comma stuff. Around 7 quid a litre.

Comma, Mannol, Granville, Pagid, Wurth, Ferodo, Carlube.

It really depends on your usage. I've run comma dot 5.1 in my CSL for the last couple of years, it has a good temp spec & low viscosity.

If the car was ever to be tracked, i'd probably move to a higher temp fluid, Motul RBF 600/660 or Castrol SRF.

Not all DOT 4 is equal but for the road any brand name DOT 4 will be fine.

If you look at specs.

Motul RBF 660 has a dry boiling point of 325C and wet of 205C

Comma BF4500M synthetic DOT 4 has 260C dry and 160C wet.

The Motul costs about three times as much as the Comma per 0.5L.

Worth adding that the RBF has a supposedly shorter life than a lot of the other stuff, whether that's because they're making sure people change it to keep performance at its peak or what, I don't know.

Tbh for anything that might get hot brakes I use ATE Typ200 - it's cheap at about £15-17/litre, but decent performance at 280°C dry, 198°C wet. Used and abused it in our Fiesta track car and it works a treat.

Where are you buying ATE type200, ECP want £32 a litre. And the nearest GSF are 30 miles away, and out of stock.

Ebay will be around £20/litre or £30 for 2 litres generally, sometimes a little less.

I'm also fitting new calipers and hoses, so as I may waste some fluid, perhaps I'll use the Comma stuff this time.

Not mine. The 997 is much better looking IMO.
