The downtube cable stop on my winter (well lives on turbo trainer now biggrin) bike is fubar. Barrel adjuster broke inside it and attempt to somehow remove have made things worse. Bike is a specialised secteur

Anyway, I have cable tied full cable housing all the way to rear derailleur stop so can still change gear but not sure how well it would be out on the road (only ever gets used in winter anyway and pretty much lives on turbo trainer anyway.

However be good to do a cheap fix if above doesn’t work on road and am aware of downtube cable stops (clamp on ones for converting old bikes). Then just cut off old one and replace with clamp none.

Frame is aluminium and many other solutions only really work with steelies I think…

E.g. https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/gear-spares/origin8-cl...

However my downtube is about 50mm diameter and can’t find one that large, anyone any suggestions?

I have replaced bottle cage bosses in alloy frames before where the boss has started spinning in the tube. Used a flanged rivnut of the appropriate size.

I wonder if you could set a rivnut in the right place and use a bolt on cable stop? Looks like shimano make them.

Would involve drilling a hole in the tube so might not be a good idea but no different to a bottle cage boss?

I expect the full length outer will be fine though, have done it on mountain bikes to keep dirt out and it works fine so probably not worth the effort to change.
