Thinking of selling the VW T5 (day van, not a camper), it’s an 06 plate and just isn’t suitable for what I need now. Looking at getting another van but maybe a size down.

I do 12,000 miles a year (at least), country roads usually, with town driving.
Must be able to carry 2 kids in car seats, 3 adults and a 40kg dog at the same time, in some amount of comfort.
Automatic preferably - dodgy hip
Nothing above £10k

A Ford Tourneo seems the obvious choice, anyone have one? Any other makes out there that I should be looking at?

Anything mechanical to watch out for?

If your looking at a VW caddy which is the sort of size you need then whatever you do, dont get the 1.6 diesel as they are dreadful.

I've got a later caddy maxi life 2.0 tdi dsg and in 4 years and 75k miles i've only had one breakdown and its taken everything we've thrown at it.

My boss has a caddy and has had trouble with injectors, something I don’t really want to deal with. Not sure if that’s specific to a certain engine

I second that comment, avoid the 1.6

OP I'd be keeping the Transporter if it's still in good shape.

Transporter is a bit of a lemon, spent over £3k getting her through her last MOT and more stuff needs done to get it through in September. Plus it’s just a bit big for what I need now, a car or 5 seater van would be much more practical (and possibly mire economical).

Its specific to the 1.6 diesel, the 2.0 is absolutely fine, even the older 1.9TD is better than the 1.6

I've often looked at Caddy sized vans, I always come back to the Berlingo looking like the best of the bunch.

Quite a few of the JDM people carriers are longer than a SWB T5.

Well that's certainly a few sizes down hehe cool little things, there's a Veedub style one near me. They have a T3 too, which although not really that big, makes the Samba look comically small.

I'd be taking a very close look at a Berlingo.

Interesting replies, will have a look at JDM stuff and see if there’s anything else I can find
