Manthey-perfected 911 GT3 RS for sale

The 991.2 was already a stunning road racer - this one has had another £80,000 spent on it...

For a car that seemingly has a reputation for never seeing so much as a national speed limit sign, you don’t half see a lot of GT3 RS 911s at track days. From loved and lapped 996s that have spent as much time on the track as they have on a road, to 992s redefining what a street-legal car is capable of, they are definitely used as intended. At least last time around they were - perhaps we need another track day to be sure. Or maybe the ones not being used as intended simply generate a bit more conversation…

Whatever the case, it’s true that every single GT3 RS - whether it’s fairly modestly powered and manual or a modern monster as fast as a Cup car - is an absolute joy on circuit. Not only are they massively rewarding and hugely capable, but the GT Porsches lap up heavy-handed treatment. (Pun very much intended.) As a result, drivers really get the most out of their track experience. Then come back for more, when Porsche gets around to building a new one.

But some people are never satisfied. Whether it’s a power bump for an 800hp supercar or personalising a hand-finished luxury saloon, the sky is very much the limit when money isn't a hindrance. And when it means cars like the Manthey Racing GT3 RS result, that’s absolutely fine by us. Because what could be better than the best-driving 911 of its generation, further improved by the people that build Nurburgring-crushing racers of them?

The Manthey Racing Performance Kit for the 991.2 GT3 RS took seven seconds off a comparable Nordschleife lap time for the standard car. That’s with no extra power, remember, and when a regular RS was already lapping at less than seven minutes. With 520hp. It was a stunning achievement, thanks to upgrades like adjustable coilovers, the incredible rear wing, magnesium wheels, upgraded brakes and Michelin Cup 2R tyres. Quite some lap to watch, too.

This GT3 RS has the kit, all £64,843.22 of it, and looks glorious for it - gold magnesium wheels really are something special, especially with the matching aerodiscs on the back. In addition, it also has a set of Surface Transform ceramic discs, which the ad says cost another £14k (the Manthey package included braided lines, better fluid and racier pads). Someone was very, very serious about tracking their GT3 RS, to the extent of even fitting a RaceLogic VBox (another £3,000). This is surely going to be sensational.

Registered in 2018, it’s covered 9,000 miles since; safe to say that a decent chunk of those have been on track. Great news - it means the next owner can continue using it in the same vein. You know it won’t have been over-revved (on the basis that someone investing this much in a GT3 RS isn’t a total wally) and if the services have been regular it ought to have many, many more happy track miles in it. Certainly the condition is nothing to fret about; the only evidence of being driven properly is some nicely worn steering wheel Alcantara. At £220k, this is one of the more expensive 991s out there, though you'd expect that. And for those that really care about the numbers, a car like this (without those discs) recorded 6:54.340 at the Nurburgring; a new GT3 RS did 6:49.328, with the same Michelin Cup 2R tyre. It isn’t possible to buy one of those for less than £345,000 - and that sort of difference, for going five seconds faster, buys a lot of track time. And fuel. And tyres. And hotel stays.

Not my fav colour combo, but an impressive piece of kit.

Only place I’ve seen them was at the ‘Ring in the car park.

Probably a bit too OTT for the U.K. unless you have regular access to a track.

Love the gold accents also...very 70's. Prefer on black "a la JPS", but white works as well. Sounds like a piece of work.

Just musing away after failing to find the requisite £££ down the back of the sofa but I wondered how much the (declared) £80k of mods would add to my (imaginary) insurance quote for this?

Finally, it has been a week or so without a Porschar 911. What an example, it is too. Even more gruesome than usual.
The very defensive opening to the article tries just a bit too hard to dismiss the nagging suspicion that most of them are used by divorcees to reinforce their egos. Beautul & very functional mag wheels ruined by wannabe aero carbon frizbees.
Even the front lights look terrible. Funny when so many on Porschar Home are complaining about the new Aston lights.
Love those seats though.

A Red GT3 RS MR came past me on the M6 last week. Guy was changing gear for fun and it sounded epic. 4D number plate with BO55 XXX on it less impressive but that's just my sour grapes 🍇

Much as I usually find modern Porsches a bit (a lot) dull, I'd imagine this is good fun on track.

How many times does it have GT3RS written on it, I wonder? If you need reminding, maybe it isn't that good after all...

Lots of mentions for the Cup2R tyres which are not actually fitted on this car, it’s on Cup2’s. Nor are they particularly easy to get hold off should you want some. I think they are actually a figment of the Porsche marketing teams imagination. So special they are not available to mere mortals.

Reading and YouTube seems to have me coming round to the Porche ethos, wages allowing a 911T should get me down the road nicely, question, will wages allow?

I used to see BO55 XXX on the back of a Range Rover Sport, badly parked once a week in Maida Vale. It had some terrible body kit and the Range Rover badge at the rear changed to be "Envious" or "Exclusive" or some other nonsense. Bald vape guy gave me a really dirty look the first time I saw it and burst out laughing.

I'm glad his movie business is doing well.

Just my opinion but I imagine most people want to be able to drive to the track in relative comfort and maybe still do some road driving.

Otherwise if you are about track time only, you wouldn't buy one of these at all. Radical, BAC etc will sell you something that will blast this into the weeds for this kind of money. But will be pretty unbearable in any other use.

Wouldn't be so sure about blasting into the weeds tbh

Eg Goodwood circuit Bac Mono Oliver Webb driving, factory supported record lap attempt 1:15

991.2 GT3RS with some handling mods (not Manthey) at a trackday with some traffic driven by the RMA owner Leyton does 1:18.

That's close enough that it makes the Mono and it's compromises look a bit silly, gimme comfortable seats, a roof and AC for a couple of seconds laptime penalty.

I've got one (a .1 3RS with the Manthey kit, albeit not the frisbees). I'm happily married. Others will have to judge my ego, but the car is a fantastic track machine. Not a great road car (the Manthey suspension in my version at least is stiff and squeaky on the road, and deletes the front lift) but immense through fast corners, especially ones with multiple forces acting at once like Eau Rouge or the Craner Curves. I don't think many will have thrown money at Manthey and not used the car on track; they'll have low miles (mine has about 12k) in fact because they are only used on track (and, cautiously, getting to it - 2Rs are not great road tyres, either, in Northern Europe at any rate).

You're free to dislike it, of course, but I'd try one first if I were you.
