Hi all
After some helpful advice and it’s a long story 😂
I bought my lovely cv8 about 6 months ago and it’s spent more time in the garage than me driving it 😥
The long story:

I have a vibration from 32mph to about 50mph. It all started when I gave it to a garage to change the prop shaft centre bearing. They gave it back and it vibrated like hell, they then sent the prop to Wimborne for balancing now it is less but is still there. Another garage has looked at it and found that they fitted the rubber donut the wrong way around, this has still not fixed the problem.
I have had the wheels rebalanced and all ok there, only thing I can think off is to get the prop balanced again at a different place. But fed up of wasting money chasing the problem.
Anyone had any experience of this or any suggestions
Thanks Simon

I would book the car into a garage that has a lot of experience with Monaro’s and get the car fully checked out. Which garage to use depends where you live in the country. There are a few reputable ones that are regularly used by owners on this forum.

The propshaft should have been marked up properly before removal so it goes back in the correct position, I wonder if that was done?

I would guess that as your prop has been balanced and the rubber doughnuts have been replaced that lot should be all OK.

Before you spend any money check the engine and gearbox mounts just incase they are causing the problem.

From what you have said I suspect that the prop hasn’t been fitted back in its original position. If you are handy with the spanner’s you could unbolt the prop at the diff and move it one position at a time, and see if the vibration disappears.

John.

Thanks for that. I am based in Weymouth Dorset so any recommendations for garages with Monaro experience would be much appreciated.
The garage had mentioned the gearbox mount was worn so I need to source one of those as well

Try the following for parts/ repairs,

Advanced Automotive Services in Newcastle.
Wakinshaw Perormance in Chipping Norton.
Mw Performance in Chester.
Topcats Racing in Buckinghamshire.
Pedders UK Milton Keynes.

You can also get parts from RockAuto or Summit Racing in the states, use Fedex for delivery.

I’m not on Facebook, but you will find some Monaro/ VXR8 owners on there for advice if you get stuck. Sadly this forum is very quiet these days.

Speak to Carl Herkes at LS Performance Parts - he is based near Alresford so probably the closest to you as well.

He should be able to assist with parts and diagnosis/fixing

Does picador still exist as they used to import them , is the propshaft support bearing still ok , as they do wear out , and as above probably not put back properly when they were separated

IIRC, it has always been recommended to replace the gearbox mount at the same time as having the centre prop done. This is because they sag over time and can cause vibration issues because prop alignment will be slightly out.
Personally, I'd have the prop back off again and sent away for another rebalance.
I'd replace the gearbox mount and check the donuts really well.
