2nd light bike for A road blasts

Alright all,

Looking for a 2nd bike alongside the 1290 SAS. Its a big old thing, but so am I - 16 stone and 6'1" - not that big but still enough to rule out some bikes as I'm 45.

Budget up to £5, maybe £6k

I tried a 2011 ZX6R as I had a 2005 one 10 years ago but it was WAY too cramped. Great bike though.

It doesnt need to be more than 100HP at all, ideally probably a lot less so it can be thrashed.

I'm thinking SV650 before they stop making them (can see an ex-demo for £5700) but wondering what else I should be considering? And the SV will probs need better suspension. Considering CB1000R etc too but as above it can't be thrashed. Also considering gen 1 tuono as rose tinted specs etc but missing my main objective of not too much.

You need to sit on the sv because it is quite small. Very low seat height makes it feel cramped.

Otherwise it’s a good option.

I have to admit that after a string of much bigger bikes and still owning the VFR1200, thrashing the crap out of my CBF500 on backroads is amazingly good fun - added bonus is the much cheaper fuel and insurance costs (even with declared suspension upgrades).

Well, for just dicking about on really as per title. Or have I misunderstood?

If I could have a cbf500 or similar that had decent suspension then great.

Less mods the better though just for insurance declarations really

RS660 if the parallel twin doesnt put you off, 100bhp and the lightest in its segment, pretty comfortable too

Do you mean A road or B road? A SV doesn’t sound very exciting for an A road? Anyway 100 bhp and fun should lead you to a KTM 950SM /SMR

The most fun I have is a proper SM bike on B roads - unless it's massively different to the 1290 I don't see the point

Mine is a 525 you might prefer a 701 SM

690 Duke is another option or MT07 but then I'd rather have a Street Triple R

Think that's over budget though, cheapest I can find is just over £6k.

If you can't dick around on A roads on a 1290 SAS you are doing something wrong

When mine was in for a big service they lent me an adventure 890. That was a blast and felt just as quick 0-60 as my 1290 but had loads more useable power i.e you don't hit three figures quite so easy and you need to work the engine more.

So I vote 890 or 790 adventure. Or buy something completely different like a c90 or 400 scooter.

Most admit, I went from a street triple to a superduke GT and the street was a fun back road bike. Just got a bit buzzy on a long ride out with my mate on his BMW and I was always working hard to keep up. The GT eats miles effortlessly. But definitely a street triple as a more fun machine.
