I wondered if somebody could help me with this question please. I am considering a 570s and like many new Mclaren owners would like a warranty. If going down the official warranty route I believe I would need to own a car for 90 days before being able to put the warranty on.

If I manage to find a car either privately or at a dealer if they have had the car for 90 days or more is it theoretically possible for them to add the warranty and then it would just get transferred to me upon sale? Thanks!

I would imagine the private owner could but not a dealer, as soon as a car is sold to trade the extended warranty is void,,

There are a few people who’ve said they’ve not had to wait the 90 days but the official line is you do,,

As Davy says, official line is yes, but it depends on the main dealer, i was offered a warranty immediately after an inspection.

You can always use Thorney for inspection and warranty, no 90 day wait or V Engineering for inspection.

I ended up self warrantying, i considered if it passed inspection it was good enough for me, there are many on here who self warranty so its not essential as some non owners would make you believe.

P.s Great cars, mine was fault free barring an air con hose over a year and half with loads of track days.

McLaren dealer - approved used cars come with 12 months McWarranty; many buyers have negotiated an extension to 24 months within the deal.
Private sale - as long as the current owner has at least a minimum length of warranty remaining (maybe 3 months) the warranty can be transferred after the car is purchased, no inspection needed.
Independent dealer (owned stock) - cars cannot be covered with McWarranty, official line as you say is 90 day ownership then McLaren dealer inspection then you pay to fix any warranty-related faults discovered then you can buy the warranty, some people have had a PPI done at a McLaren dealer who have then sold a warranty on that basis at the point of sale. (Bending the warranty co rules for mutual benefit).
Independent dealer (Sale or Return) - as per private sale. Quite a few McLarens at dealers are SoR, dealers are often reluctant to admit this.

I don't know if buying privately if the seller could take out a new warranty and transfer it straight away or if there's a minimum time to hold it before transferring.

I've run my 570 Spider without warranty for 3 years now with only a couple of modest issues easily & inexpensively dealt with by V Eng (highly recommended) saving thousands over running a warranty, so would say if you find a nice car with a proper maintenance history just get a prepurchase inspection from V Eng or Thorny & crack on enjoying the car.
