Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice please?

I'm after recommendations for a car rental company based at Granada airport?

Has anyone hired a car from here in the past?
Any recommendations, or anyone to avoid based on your previous experience? There seems to be a plethora of local companies as well as the usual mutli nationals. Would prefer a reliable local company if possible, cost not a great issue.

Many thanks
Jon

Avoid Goldcar like the plague, have a look at reviews for them.

Each time I have rented from a Spanish airport it has been painful. Having paid up front before leaving U.K. and then being charged extra for local taxes, additional compulsory insurance, to repair costs on existing damage and or top ups for fuel when the tank was brimmed within 5k a of the return site.

On the whole an expensive painful experience I don’t wish to repeat.

Try another means of travel to your destination and rent locally if possible

4 years ago we just used Avis.

It was just easy.

A desk in the terminal and collect/return the car virtually just outside the door. I don't recall being fleeced in terms of price and there was no hard up selling. I returned it with a full tank having filled up a few miles from the airport.

No experience from Granada airport but I haven't had any issues with car hire in Spain. I've used quite a few but recently started using Recordgo. My only bugbear is the amount of time it takes to go through the process of collecting the car ... I mean, I've paid, you know I'm coming so why not just take my license details and give me the keys?!

I always use Questor insurance (and advise everyone else to) which insures your excess in the event of a claim and I've never paid anything over the orginal booking amount (apart from speeding fines loser )

Cicar operate out of there, and although I have not used them on mainland Spain I have used them on the Canary Islands many times.

Their mainland T&Cs are slightly different to the Canary Island T&Cs and have charges if you want a booster seat, additional driver, GPS, etc. but other than that the prices they quote for the car are still fully inclusive of CDW the same as the Canary Islands.

The prices for mainland Spain are nowhere near as cheap as the Canary Islands, and I am sure you could get a car without CDW and buy independent insurance cheaper, but then that decision is yours.

But whatever you do, avoid Goldcar like the plague.

Thank you all for your replies, I'll be sure to avoid Goldcar! beer

Reading the reviews about Goldcar, which seem extremely damning, do these generally apply to the mainstream hirers as well at the airport? i.e. Avis, Hertz etc? Reviews seem to be so mixed, but I suppose that happens with all services.

I'm looking to book online before from UK and really can't be arsed with queues and extra charge faff!
