Use an out of date stamp? That'll be £5 please

Yep, that's what Royal Mail are charging recipients of the mail if they want to receive it. Seems to be taking the piss somewhat especially when the Royal Mail will already have benefited from the proceeds of the now out of date stamp.

The sender can, but the charge is levied on the recipient.

Using a non-barcoded stamp (ie an old one) is £2.50, not £5.

It's a fiver for no postage paid or the sender using a counterfeit stamp.

Funny this came up, as I was clearing old paperwork yesterday and found an unused envelope with a second class stamp on it from a few years ago.

Seems unfair for the recipient to get penalised because some cheap arse sender hasn't swapped the stamp. No?

How does that help the chap who already posted a letter? Also it's impossible to know if a stamp is out of date or not surely.

Well if it's an old size stamp then RM have ticked the wrong box & they owe you £2.50. The new stamps are much larger even without the barcode bit so it should be easy to tell.

A family member sent out all of their Christmas cards with old non barcode stamps, every recipient just had a royal mail come to the post office card stuck through their letterbox with no idea what they were going to collect. I'm considering doing that to all of the people who annoy me this Christmas

Yes, an old style stamp. I actually think the sender has tried to re-use the stamp so RM deemed no payment.
