Would it be possible, in theory to find a chap with a GTI plate on his Vauxhall that would want to trade for my VXR? And if I were to sell it, how does it work regarding getting a new plate/admin/charges etc?

GTI was never issued as a prefix, so you will need to be creative if that's what you are looking for.
