Home exchange holidays
Discussion
I am familiar with the concept behind those companies that allows one to swap ones own hovel for a fortnight in exchange for a waterfront apartment on the Cote d'Azur - absolutely gratis!
Primarily, I wanted to know if anyone had any first hand experience of them?
I also had the notion that, with an ever increasing number of fellow PHers dotted around the globe; it may prove mutually beneficial in setting up a similar scheme?
I note that most subscribers to these schemes, also make their cars available as part of the swop.
Imagine that... ErnestM turns to his wife and says "Pack you bags darling, I've arranged a holiday swop with a fellow PHer in little ol' England." "It couldn't be simpler or more convenient; I've even agreed to swop cars for the fortnight." "Now, I'll leave the keys with next door so pwig can collect them when he arrives."
I don't feel there's a need for a dedicated forum (Ted & Manek already have enough on their plate).... but, what are your thoughts?

My parents have done a few and they have been very good. They stayed in a five bed house with pool in California and a nice apartment in Seattle amongst others.
You do have to be very sure however that you are happy with absolute strangers being in your house and left to their own devices with all of your stuff. The people who swapped with my parents were all fifty plus and very decent, and you do have to provide a lot of references, but there is always scope for abuse.
Saves you a fortune on accommodation though and you get somewhere nicer and larger than a hotel to stay in.

Yep, the idea of absolute strangers having the run of your house does leave me with certain reservations.
These sites do suggest, that you can build up a some rapport with prospective swappers by emailing and telephoning.
They also say that they will invariably leave your house in the condition they found it.... shame that... I was hoping that they might tidy the shithole up a bit!!
