Making a fake window for transit custom
Discussion
Hi I want to make a realistic looking fake window for my black transit custom, so I can use my work van to go camping, hopefully something magnetic, and prob mirror finish as the van is black, any suggestions?
I've looked for something off the shelf but can't find anything.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

The van is already black?? That’s gonna be tricky as the usual fix would be to stick some glossy black vinyl in the shape of a window…I've looked for something off the shelf but can't find anything.
Any help appreciated.

I mean you could actually get the glass glued on without cutting the hole for it that they’d normally do during a conversion… not sure what the going rate is though and it seems a tad silly?

Buy a window and bond it on without cutting the metal out. Seems a weird thing to do, so why not just fit the proper windows in it? We do hundreds at work for Customs.
Because for the rest of the year I use it as a work van. This might be an option though, but I would like to remove it when camping is finished.
Was hoping to maybe just stick it on with magnets, put it on around the corner as I arrive then take it off as soon as I leave.
We went to a site that banned commercial vehicles and when my brother in law explained he is a one man band and it's his sole vehicle, they let him on with it, we were there with kids etc.
He's been to another site that said he was allowed on to unpack then had to park it up by reception, once he was on, nobody came to check or tell him to move it.
If you speak to them they may be forthcoming. He was told it's to stop people working away using their site as a form of cheap accomodation and spoiling it for people genuinely away for a relaxing break.

I used to work away, and I would camp as a form of cheap accommodation. What is wrong with that, and why would it spoil someone genuinely away for a relaxing break? The site I go to has banned commercial vehicles
Please do this:Phone up and ask to speak to the owner, and explain that you really love coming there, but changing the rules is really unhelpful and upsetting..and could he/she make an exception. How charming is it possible for you to be.
If they still say no, post them a box with a horses head in it.

I used to work away, and found that I could get a bnb in a guest house for less than the price of a small pitch for a single tent. That Derby for you.
I was paying £6 a night at Lee Valley, or £30 if I stopped the week, this was in 2009. There was no chance of finding digs in London for that money. I did move onto AirBNB after a few seasons in the tent, camping all year round does get a little tiresome.Get some mirror finish or black gloss acrylic sheet cut to size, some rubber trim around the edges and glue neodymium magnets to the inside = removable fake windows.
These guys:

...will, for example, supply a piece of gloss black acrylic 500 x 300mm for £6 (they do mirror finish for a bit more), pick up your magnets on Ebay for a few quid and you can get rubber channel there for about £3 per metre. Should fool most inspections as long as you put them on straight!
