Looking at either Cannon 350D and the Nikon 70s, any thoughts or recommendations ?

Cheers

Just been through the same decision process. IMHO Both excellent, both better than the alternatives for one reason or another. Neither will be a dissapointment.

Having said all that...

...get the Nikon.

Bit like going in the TVR forum and asking Chim or Griff.

Chimeara owners say chimeara, Griffith owners say Griffith!

The smart money says buy whichever one you like the feel of most.

And get the Nikon...

By repute they're both ace. I have the Nikon (non-S). If you're considering either of these two how can you go wrong, really?

Why on earth would you want a TVR when you can have a Noble?

Because even my kettle has a bigger capacity than a Noble

I'd go for the Noble D70.

Little hands = Canon

Bigger ( normal ) sized hands= Nikon

The Canon feels just way too small in my hands and all the buttons are too close together.

So I got the Nikon.

No probs, great camera. Can't be faulted really.

Only on this rather lop-sided forum.

Anyone with any sense will buy Canon.

I just got a Minolta Dynax 5D and I love it! It's worth a look if you don't have any lenses from Canon or Nikon already, the anti shake thingy is great!

No, just the misguided ones!!!

I'm looking at these two myself for purchase soon, and while I've yet to have a look in the flesh, I'm leaning towards the Canon, at least in part for lens flexibility. But a friend has the D70 and he's very impressed, so I really don't see either as 2nd best.

...and NOBODY will look at an A3 print and be able to tell whether it was a Canon or a Nikon that took the picture (although they may well spot a crap third party or cheap lens!)

There are a few photos on my gallery taken with a medium format camera - the rest are either D1, D1X or D2X. It's only at A2 enlargements that there is any noticable difference - and to be honest the D2X beats the pants off the 78 mb scanned medium format quality(via the most respected scanning lab in the UK).

Unlike the top marques in sports cars, which vary enormously in build quality and performance (no names!), the relative quality and performance of the top camera/lens marques are virtually undistingushable.

Matt's image in this months EVO was taken on only a 4 mp camera, but it stands up against all the rest in the same mag. A Canon or a Nikon would have produced an equally good photo (The fact that Matt is a talented git and I'm going to let his tyres down when I see him is beside the point).

You probably have no idea at this stage, but if you intend to go serious down the line, as in Pro or semi-pro or just too-much-money-to-spend, then Canon are definitely the better choice. The lens choices alone totally outnumber Nikon's offerings, and they are the leader in the technology race.

But if at this stage all you are deciding between is the 350D and the D70, go D70 if for no other reason than the decent kit lens (the bundled lens with the 350D is turd wipe).

If I ever go semi-pro, I'll make sure I choose Canon.

Because Nikon prefer Quality over quantity.
