Sony DCR-HC42E users

A few of us on here have 'em. Simple question. When using with a bullet cam do you faff around with the on screen menus to record, use a LANC controller (if so which one), or some other magic method?

No one? I don't really want to spend out on a LANC controller and find it doesn't set the CAM into VCR mode.

Not the same camcorder but I have a Sony DCR-PC8E and a bullet cam. The camcorder has a blue LANC socket next to the bullet cam socket and I purchased a LANC controller from RF Concepts at the same time as the bullet cam. This works well as on the limited amount of trackdays I've done in my Caterham you velcro it to the dash and start recording when you leave the pit lane not when you get in the car to join the queue. It saves loads of battery life and tape's full of sitting still.
