Question: can I claim unused warranty from third party?
Discussion
Dear Forum,
I had my car written off by my insurer some time ago, after a non-fault accident. I still have about 1 year unused extended warranty on this car, should I ask my insurer to add the partial warranty cost to my car's written off valuation? Or should I claim this unused warranty cost from the third party insurer?
I have contacted this extended warranty company but they would not refund any unused warranty. They can transfer the warranty to the next owner, but since my car was written off, all I want now is to get my unused warranty money back.
Thank you.

Depends on what the t&c say on your warranty agreement. I had my car written off by my insurer some time ago, after a non-fault accident. Some will allow “ cancellations “ with then a return of the unearned warranty premium less an admin charge.
If this is a no go then you could try the Insurance but again might depend on what your policy terms are.
Thank you both MitchT, Alscar,
The T&C of my extended warranty does not say anything about refund, so that was why I rang them and they said they would not refund any unused warranty, even the car has been written off.
Ok I will include the unused pro rata warranty cost to my claim and wait for the third party insurer's response. Thank you for the advice!

I’m a little surprised there is no mention of what happens if you want to cancel the warranty which is in effect all you are doing but ok. They do have a habit of hiding this information away from memory especially if it’s a third party and not a Manufacturer warranty ie it gets typed in within general paragraphs !
But Mitch’s idea is also worth a go as he said.
