All the Jags with the "R" suffix are supercharged.

You can pick up XJR's for peanuts - just be aware that running costs won't be for monkeys...

The earlier XJR XJ40 models were without supercharger but the X300 models (up to P reg) were 6 cylinder 4.0 with a supercharger, after that they were the XJ8 V8 4.0 supercharged.

Brilliant cars.

Speaking of Jaguars, saw a new XK, partially disguised, on the A34 the other day followed by another one 'naked'. Gorgeous.

Presume the disguised one (Mainly around the wings and rear quarters) was an XKR or something?

The 6 cylinder cars are worth a lot less, and they're not in the same league performance-wise. Still very nice though, and a lot of car for £5k.

Good and bad ones as in all things, i know 2 brothers who got one each new on s plates, one was a nail and kept braking the other ace and faultless, they've both got rid of them now and got a pair of range rover vogues which oddly enough are both nails!

Yes, they had the rather dodgy body kit, and other extras but a standard engine.

The common consensus is that the XJ8's are the ones to get however I have experience of a 6 cylinder XJR which quite frankly was phenomenal.

Square headlights and old shape up to L reg ish, no supercharger just bodykit and piped leather etc.

x300's with twin round headlights up to P reg ish, with supercharger but straight six engine.

XJ8's, also twin headlights from R reg with supercharger, and V8 engine.

Not marvellous, but no worse than my BMW 540i used to do which was 17mpg pootling around town and school runs, up to 28 or so on a spirited run. Combined expect an honest 24mpg.

The 6's are very good, and yes, lack some of the grunt of the later XJ8 V8s but don't have the similar nicasil bore wear problems that the early 8's faced.

I like the XJR 6's and for the money I don't think there is a better car. The engines are well tested, but as with all Xj's check the electrics. Sometimes the instrument pods play up which can be a bit costly.

Have a look on www.nmjags.co.uk They are a friendly bunch who will answer any questions you may have and generally have some nice stock in.

Nothing nicer than an XJR in Brg, with cream leather. A complete sleeper.

I agree, I have to turn the volume off.
They are a really friendly bunch though, I popped down there when I had the XJ8, and even though I made my intentions perfectly clear stating there is no way I could afford the xk8 I was drooling all over, they handed me the keys and offered me a drive.

I didn't take them up on it, but did have a fiddle.

1995 straight six model. About 320bhp.

Filled up in Stowmarket. Zeroed computer. Country lanes route home. Heavy right foot over the 13 mile journey = 11mpg.

Usual economy on 10-mile trip to/from work was 16mpg.

20 - 22mpg was achievable on long runs, but not a regular occurrence during my ownership.

Tyres fairly pricey @ £165/each.

Rear bushes and air-con had to be sorted on mine.

Well on closer examination it's a non blower M reg XJR with aftermarket wheels, it's not had an easy life during it's 105k miles so I'll avoid it I think. A shame really as it's had an lpg conversion done, anyone know how this translates into miles per £?
