2500 on HIF6 SUs, no power?

OK, the damn TR is grinding me down, the current killer is as follows:
Engine starts and ticks over fine, revs and drives when cold but once hot starts playing up. Even when nice and hot the tick over is sweet but it will not rev, in fact as soon as you touch the throttle it pops and splutters. It definatly will not take up any load!
The carbs are ballanced and open equally, there are springs in them and oil in the dash pots.

Take the lazy route and book it in for a rolling road session?
It could be fuel vaporisation - are things getting expecially hot around the carbs?
Have you made any engine mods - tubular manifold/needle changes/etc? It could be a miss-match if you have, possibly over-rich needles - OK when it's cold (doing the same job as the choke and richening the mixture), but flooding when everything warms up.
