Well, if you look at the time of this post you'll see it's currently 05:40 on saturday morning... I'm like an excited school boy right now, I just can't wait to collect my Elise at 10:00 today.

The funds transferred late yesterday afternoon and I ran out of time, so today is the day. I'll post some pics later but it's a Lazer blue 111R, stage 1 exhaust, hard top, touring pack, air con and best of all black wheels.

Excellent news.

The weather is exactly the same today as it was when I collected my 111R - chucking it down in Norfolk, hope it's better where you are...

Got it, and am one very happy bunny. On the way home I absolutely killed a Boxster, the driver was not at all amused. I was just blown away by the Elise's composure, feedback through the steering wheel is out of this world.

I also got another car yesterday, a Ford Focus Zetec Climate 1.6. However that's sat in the garage and the feeling that it will stay in there most of the time.

By the way, how on earth do I post pictures on this BBS?

Well done - Laser blue is a lovely colour! Wish I'd have taken it more seriously when I was looking for mine.

Looks a millions times better in real life than photo's.

I cannot express how good this car is. I am sooooo pleased with it. It's way better than my previous Scoobys, M3's and 911's.

Track days seem to be the next chapter in my motoring life. Any reccomendations for a novice?

Phil

PS - spent three hours polishing it even though it was only valeted yesterday!!!!!!

I did my first day at Castle Combe. Was told before hand that it was a scary, tricky track to start on but I thought it was spanking great.

Westover Sports cars have spaces left on the Wednesday outing I beleive.

Forgot to ask some more questions...

1. Bought a Tom Tom GO today, any particularly goo ways of locating it in an Elise?
2. Should I proof the soft top on a regular basis? I've got a hard top as well, not sure if I'll take it off in the winter.

www.lotus-on-track.com - you have to pay to join but the days are great value, you're on track with Elises and Exiges on the whole plus a few others. They do both sessioned and open pit lane days, are recognised by most insurance companies and are well organised.

Bedford Autodrome is a good one for beginners although I did my first few at Brands as I know the circuit so well (I live 10 miles away and have been a season ticket holder for the last 3 years)

Beautiful car!! I'm hopefully buying an Elise S2 soon, and Lazer Blue is my favourite colour - shame it's pretty rare on the secondhand market.

I'm an experienced racing driver and did trackdays in my Caterham and I have two words of advice for your first trackday: Bedford Autodrome. Bedford Autodrome is not built for racing, so there are no crash barriers to protect spectators - just hundreds of yards of flat grass.

If you're a complete track novice and over do it you will just end up spinning onto flat grass at most of the corners. If you're nervous about damaging your car, it will enable you to relax and enjoy it without the fear of going off - so good news all round.

I'd avoid airfield days - they bumps will prevent you reaching and staying on the true limit of your car, it'll be just like driving down a road and you won't learn much or enjoy it much. Airfields also wear out tyres much more than race tracks.

If you do want to go to a proper racing circuit (and many do because it is often more fun and fullfilling driving somewhere that you've spectated at), then think about what type of circuit you want. Snetterton and Silverstone are big open and flat and great for very high speed cornering, whereas Outlon and Cadwell offer more twisty circuits with gradients etc. Somewhere like Combe or Brands Hatch combines the two.

Beautiful car - and enjoy your first track day!
