Sod's Law isn't it.

Last day of the holiday, in Nicosia and following Google maps suggestion turn into a side road unbeknownst to me that you are only permitted to turn into from the opposite direction.

Queue three Stavros' jumping out from behind a bush to nab me there and then with a €100 fine.

Would you file this in the recycling? I have 14 days to cough up.

Depends on if you really think border control in Cyprus will have a file waiting for your return , for a 100 euro traffic ticket ..........

I've oustanding tickets in Italy and Thailand, and oddly, I've managed to go back almost every year with no issues at all!

I’d check the car hire thing. If you got a parking ticket, they’d be charging you full amount plus a substantial admin fee… traffic violation? No idea!

Why fk about worrying, pay, move on and relax!

Just pay it and stop being a tight arse. I honestly can't fathom how people manage to be able to afford to go abroad yet moan about a traffic fine which was THEIR FAULT

Ahhh you lovely, lovely people. :-)

Man makes innocent mistake abroad, confused by local signage, get slapped with a 100 Euro fine, and you are all, "bloody tightwad, your fault, you can afford to go on holiday abroad, rich man, PAY UP!".

Bugger me backwards. This forum can be a real strange collection sometimes :-)

If you were in a hire car you might find if you dont pay it the hire car firm will and then charge your credit card with both the fine and an extortionate admin fee

To be honest, I think the people who would avoid paying that are the strange ones.

It was an innocent mistake - it could easily have happened to any of us. It doesn't change the fact that he made an illegal turn, and got fined as a result.
If it was in the UK, I guess he'd accept he was bang to rights. There have been a surprising number of posts on PH over recent months which are basically : Yeah, <this> happened, I got fined, but I think I might be able to get away without paying.

PH isn't a great lesson on morality.

Put me down as immoral then. If I think I can get away with one here or abroad that’s what I’m gonna do.

I suspect I’m in a majority with that view.

No way would I pay an iffy foreign fine, so I must be immoral as well.

As already stated above, if you don't deal with it a lot more will be taken off your credit card by the hire company who will have to deal with it. Probably cost you double then and you won't feel so smart.
