I don’t use my credit card so gave it to my daughter / partner for a rainy day , big house / car bill
I happened to look at statement & have never seen so many Uber eats in all my life , apparently £25 worth of drinks / food from costa / McDonald’s / Burger King etc is now deemed to be part of the rainy day !!
One is apparently £45 for the chip shop , I know I’m older & still live in the £5 for fish & chip days ( possibly cheaper ) but how the hell doyou spend £45 at a chip shop for 2 .
Wife did say at time you’ll regret giving her partner use of your credit card ( daughter can do no wrong )
I’m off for a lie down .

Oh wow what a brilliant strategy! Handing over your credit card for rainy day emergencies and ending up with a tsunami of fast food charges. Truly the epitome of financial planning. Maybe next time, a piggy bank would suffice for those emergencies.

It’s very easy spending someone else’s money.
P.S stop the card as this will only get worse.

Gives some insight into what will happen to your hard-earnt in the future. (I’m same boat). If they take your feedback and move their “emergency bills” like car insurance/Tesco food onto here then the Uber eats will go from their own spends, can’t win unless you set some rules of use; sticky subject but easier to offer to pay for private schooling ? That way their spends remain as what they desire and can afford, your money goes into grandkids education which can’t be taken away from him/her

I’m not going to get into ‘you did what??!!’ because it’s too late so can only sympathise and understand that you need a lie down. Just make sure the card is destroyed or acct closed. If you want to help them financially then make it clear that you will but they’d have to ask you for help on a as and when basis : most people don’t like or feel embarrassed asking for money to help.

BTW I think it’s easier than you think to spend £45 in a chippy when you’re paying with others money (though I’ve never got near £45, but I don’t like fish, so cheapy sausages for me!) . And money disappears quite literally in Costa.

oof - I'm with the others - cancel / stop the card and go back to them with a new plan to assist which doesn't involve "free" daily spending on it

If we are being generous, we might say that they misunderstood the idea of a rainy day. They presumably don't think that using it this way is unexpected.

I'd be tempted not to be too upset about that and treat it as a bit of a lesson learned..

When the majority of people 'cut back' by ordering fewer takeaways you realise how much money must be pissed up the wall on crap food.

I know people that are really struggling financially, but dont see why 2-3 takeaways a month is excessive, madness

Thank you all , I’ve sent her a txt ( trying to not upset the apple cart ) asking her if she knows anything about all these Uber - eats on the credit card , not to worry just wondering if it’s a scam , hopefully they get the message
I don’t want to take the card off her as I’m away most weeks so easier if car breaks / boiler blows up for her to sort , but if it continues then card will have to come back , thanks .

Surely better to give her pocket money, than a CC? In the unlikely event the car/boiler blows, couldn't you just transfer her a lump to sort it out?

The card was for emergencies, heating , car etc , not for takeaways , if she wants 3/4/5 in a week it’s upto her , though as diabetic / celiac I don’t think it’s what she should be eating , but they should pay for that

If she has her own car why doesnt she have her own credit card for emergencies? Surely she would build a credit record and take more ownership of whats being spent.

What need is there for instant cash/funds to cover a bill now? We have these things called phones.

Your daughter is hardly going to be in the situation of a gun to her head demanding £6000 right now.
Big car bill will take a few days to actually fix said problem.
Boiler goes pop . Picks up phone hi dad we have a problem.

Not to mention the fact you could just pay anything off over the phone anyway.

I hope that you have a suitably LOW credit limit on that card. I think your well intentioned action is about to have unintended consequences.

But you must be paying the bill each month? Unless she's only had the card for one month?

PS who's in danger of going bankrupt ?

Sorry OP
Banking is so much easier these days. With online you can transfer money instantly if she needs it for an emergency.
Cancel the card.
Ask yourself this - If you invite them out for a meal would any of them choose steak!
Currently my son (16 and working) is having to learn the hard way about saving.
My daughter is clueless about money. She will fall into the same malaise when she leaves school.

You don't want to upset the apple cart!!! assuming you are paying the bill or you wouldn't be worried about this. Why are you so worried about upsetting people who think having some takeaways\drinks at your expense without asking is acceptable. They are out of order and should be told as much!

You are obviously being much more thoughtful than your daughter and her partner but sadly I doubt “ extending “ that generosity will do much to curtail their non emergency spending.
How many strikes do you want to give her ?
One of my grown up children had previously told me that with a new baby and his wife not able to return to work things would be tight so I went through with him his various spending.
Funnily enough Costa appeared daily so I suggested that was a very easy give up.
I have loaned him the money (interest free obviously to pay off a credit card) ( £1,000 ) said his mortgage and utility bills take preference over everything else and if he is in the position of not meeting one I will step in.
12 months later he hasn’t asked for any help.

OP you've been nice, which I would be too, but the daughter/partner have not respected your support so it is time to reign it in, abruptly.

A lesson is needed and don't be too kind about it.
