Distance selling advice for doctored images
Discussion
Bought a table from a large online furniture store, they have no showroom as far as i can tell.
Table delivered and built and it's not the same as the images on their website. The differences are not massive but impact on the look and our intended use (scooching under the right side on a sofa bench we would now kick the metal leg whereas on the image we would not). as you can see the cantilever is not as pronounced, the wooden leg if far more angled than the image. the metal leg is far far nearer the edge of the table than the image and where the wooden leg meets the table top is far more to the right than the image. the online listing doesn't mention any measurements that affect the position on legs etc.

I'm mildly annoyed and have emailed the company and awaiting a response.
My question: under distance selling regs, is this "not as described"?

Looks like you've received a shorter version of the same product. Definitely not as described.
Yes, by all means measure what you have actually received. But that 180cm version seems to be the only one available. Can it be set up to different heights? That would affect how the photo looks.Sebring440 said:

yes, that's our size and no it can't be altered in any way. another comparison shows how far the leg comes:Edited by TheDrownedApe on Wednesday 6th March 12:47
IANAL
As I understand it you can just return it in 30days without giving any reason under distance selling, the only issue is you may have to pay the cost of the return courier (or whatever). Check the companies T&C for the responsibility of the return - if mute then they need to pay for collection.
If you want to get them to pay for the return, I suspect it's breach of contract - they failed to provide you with what they promised.

Regarding any distance selling regulations, it doesn't matter whether it matches the pictures or not.
You have a right to a return and a refund within the specified period, and don't need to give a reason.
yes ofc but it's a repack and courier that i don't want to do or pay forYou have a right to a return and a refund within the specified period, and don't need to give a reason.

Is there an option to move the legs further to left? You seem to have more overhang there than in the image, so moving them to the left would give you more of the desired asymmetry. But I agree they seem to have used the long photo to sell the short table.

Can you not just take the table top off and move it to the right a bit. Agreed, it possibly has some built in threads for fixings, but you can likley find something to fix the table top. Even CT1 at a push and glue it on!
I'd not be surprised if they have changed the design a bit after someone sat on the "long" end and fell a over breakfast time.
But the legs look correct, just the table top is more central on yours. Shift it right and would look the same ?

Just repack and pay, how much do they want £30-£50. How much was the table?
You'd have spent a fiver on fizz driving to the shop, a tenner on take out coffee, another fiver dicking around buying other crap you didn't want on that journey. Half a day waiting for them not to deliver on the day they said and so on.
How much have you actually lost by returning it, £20?
