I've not had a clear out in a while, I used to put anything valuable on eBay and everything else on Gumtree. Unless it was completely niche or I got my pricing wrong Gumtree would be a steady stream of enquiries and everything gone in a few weeks.

I recently listed a workshop dust/chip extractor on Gumtree, it's been there for weeks now, keenly priced and no bites. I noticed similar a few months ago when I listed some other semi-niche things, stuff that I used to have no problem shifting is struggling to find a buyer.

It feels like all my buyers are somewhere else browsing for random stuff they vaguely need. Are there better options out there now?

Also, a vaguely related question, if I advertise on Facebook Marketplace is there a way of stopping it posting it to my friends feeds - none of them are interested in my tat!

I've recently been selling lots of tools, Facebook marketplace and local Facebook selling groups and Ebay.Gumtree has been a waste of time.
If selling on eBay wait til you get the Friday 80% off fees offer on your homepage

Yes, there's a toggle switch which you can enable that will hide listings from friends.

FBMP has basically replaced Gumtree. Been a few years since I posted anything for sale up there but if I recall, it doesn't automatically send anything to your/your friend's feeds unless you tell it to do so.

Thanks, I guess I'll have a go at Facebook and see if that works out any better.

Still use eBay with Buy it now as the sale method rather than auction and immediate payment required in the main which forces people to pay to complete the purchase, I found without that people would press "Buy now" and never pay.

The wife uses Facebook sometimes but the amount of buyers who don't turn up to buy is at least 50% in my experience, if someone says they will buy an item and collect days later they never will
