Where are all the 993TTs...?
Discussion
After starting out looking at 996TTs, I'm now also considering the 993 models - I'm one of those folks who simply love the 993 looks. Nowt wrong with the 996s of course and not looking to fire that one up again...;-) So, anyone aware of any beyond the ones visible when searching in AutoTrader? Would be looking for black or silver with subtle interiors with low mileage and preferably full OPCSH; price less important than condition and provenance... Any suggestions greatfully recieved...!
If you want grade A perfection then buy from Specialist Cars of Malton.
You'll need the services of a proctologist for several months but the quality is top notch and the premium should be recouped by avoiding putting right any crap by buying cheap initially.
You'll love the car for sure, right up until you run into against a 996 variant...

It's lovely but I'm not for that savannah interior and the miles are a wee bit more than I'd like (especially for £50K!) although I might have still looked at it but for the interior. I'm a picky bugger huh?! Still you need to be happy with your purchase!
As to specialist cars - they've got some lovely looking C2Ss but no 993 Turbo...;-(

Don't Shirley and Paul Stephens have some cars? I have seen them advertised in the various P mags. Plus there are TT's in the classifieds of these mags too.
If you want something a liitle more
then look at:

Regards mileage, buy on condition, miles are no enemy of the 993. Its much more important that it has been looked after properly, when they go wrong it costs massive money to fix them up right.....remember you are looking at ~10 year old cars, and components simply wear out.
Hope you get fixed up
Thanks
Martyn.

A few more thoughts..
OPC history is not that important on the 993; as most OPC's now don't have a clue with these cars (I speak from expensive experience), and I would be happier to see the stamp of a respected indie in the book.
Drive both models before buying, the 993 drives and feels like the previous generation to the 996...it all depends what you want of the car really. The 993 feels more raw and edgy than its younger brother, although the 996 is kind of the hill when it comes to cross country pace plus near Lexian (to quote DeR) refinement and ergonomics.
If you go via the air cooled route, if these items have not already been done, then budget for the following within the near future:
Recon turbos ~ £1k
Suspension upgrade (Bilstein et al) ~ £2.5k
Plus stuff like oil lines, PAS hoses, etc perishing and needing replacement.
Though a good warranty can save you a few £££'s.
I am not trying to put you off, but go in with your eyes wide open; get a good car and you will have years of fun

Completely agree with MOD, I would probably be put off a car with OPC history more than be attracted to it - in my expensive experience etc.
It's all too easy to read down the list of must haves; low miles, low owners, opc history and still end up with a pile.
The statistics mean nothing with these cars. At the PCGB festival I looked at two 993tt's sitting next to each other, one had 6500 miles, the other 63,000 miles and i could hardly tell them apart.

Thanks - appreciated. I'll be honest and say the only reason miles are a concern is for resale; I understand 993s are reliable if the service history's been good...
What do folks think of the one at AutoBahn? 35k miles, 1997P, silver with unusual black/red interior. It's 50K though - how much over the odds is this, if at all? I saw a recent post from someone suggesting they bought a 30K mile one for just 40K - I can't find anything like that...?

Glad you said that - I was thinking the other day that if I sold it I'd probably get 35K back now (with 41K and three services since I bought it!)
I think WINI paid something like £34K for his ebay bargain - RHD etc.
I'd go with MOD's choice and buy that RUF!

Be very carefull with Autobahn.
I bought one from them a couple of years ago, it needed a top end rebuild and refurbished turbos, I ended up sueing them (successfully) to get them to pay the costs. The real issue was that they knew there was a problem with the car as they bought it back from the previous chap they sold it to.

may I suggest you consider lhd.I recently bought a black 993 turbo privately located through www.mobile.de with just 17k km on the clock and absolutely immaculate.I paid the sort of money a reasonable rhd model would cost including a full opc service, extended warranty and all the uk reg charges etc.The benefit of lhd is no offset pedals and larger fuel tank.I'd also comment that with the 993 turbo being quite a 'little' car I have not found lhd to be any problem at all and feel I found a better all round car for the money.Either way I'm loving it and can't recommend the 993 turbo highly enough.
