It's getting near that irritating time of the year again. I own a 1994 993, which surely must be qualifying for classic car insurance due to age by now.

Last year I was advised on this forum to give the classic insurers a try, but due to the fact that I don't have a garage, I didn't qualify.

Does anyone here know of (or use) a classic policy that doesn't insist on garaging? I also have another car so the Porker is more or less a second car. It is also supercharged and I don't have a perfecto driving licence :hehe: Currently paying £1400 and would like to cut this down significantly with a classic policy. I'll be 31 at the time of the renewal, and only do around 4000 miles a year anyway...

Try Asset Trust - it definitely qualifies on age and I don't think the garaging will be a problem, though my similar age 993 is garaged - 01285 841 555

Agree with Asset Trust.

They quoted me on my 911 SC which has a 993 engine. I asked them to quote as if it were supercharged and they came back with a premium of £900 based on 3,000 miles. (I'm 30 and have no points).

I'm in Canary Wharf and the car is parked in allocated parking outside.

My brother (same age, no points either) has a lightly modified 3.2 and he parks his outside in C Wharf too and he is covered by Asset Trust too (paying about £600 for 4,000 miles).

my supercharged 993 is covered by Bickley via NU. Not sure about garaging but I pay just short of £900

Most insurance companies won't insure your care on a Classic policy if it's your only car. Although many will cover younger cars, the age normally has to be 15 years or older.

Just to clarify my brother's situation. His motor is his only car so I guess it could be worth contacting Asset Trust.

The Classic policy I have through Asset Trust will cover you for an only car IF you live in London. Also it only needs to be 8 years old for the age qualification.

Definitely worth a call imo - also they are just really helpful.

Many thanks guys.

Tried Bickley last year but all their policies required garaging. I have a Smart as station car so the Porker isn't technically my only motor - though it's hardly a daily drive anyway.

Garaging and that pesky ban picked up in the Noble are the only issues, I'm not in central London or a DJ or any other high-risk crap.

Presuming 993SC's car is seen as a similar level of mods as mine, hopefully I'll be lucky!! Renewal is early Nov so will update this thread when I've got answers.

cheeers again!

I presume your NCB is not used, as per most (all?) Classic Car policies?

Still toying with the idea of buying an old Audi 80 (92-95) as a runaround to keep the NCB going

That is correct. I have another car (well its a Discovery so calling it a car is a bit of a stretch) which has my NCB, and we insure the family car in my wife's name.

But overall having more than one car is a complete pain when it comes to insurance. Really there must be a better solution, I can after all only drive one at a time.

Just spotted this on the PCGB forum website.

www.123.ie/motor/

The deal is as below:

You qualify if...
You are at least 25 years old OR if under 25 hold a 5 year No Claims Bonus
Your car is valued at between €7.500 and €100,000 with an engine size of less than 3,000cc
You have no convictions other than parking offences and up to 2 penalty points
You have made no more than 2 claims in the past 5 years totalling less than €20,000
You hold a full driving licence (add €400 to premium for a provisional licence)
If the above statements apply to you then your premium is a remarkable €1,123

You're probably saying, "But my car is more than 3000cc" and you'd be right to query it.

However, someone on the PCGB forum asked them for a quote for a 1996 993 and was quoted €1063.

Could be worth a look as always...

err, but it also says:

"That you hold a current valid driving licence, issued in the Republic of Ireland. "

Damn it, I got over excited.

Having said that they don't seem to be sticking to their less than or equal to 3000cc condition so could be worth a phone call at worst.

Yerss, possibly, though for me they would also have to waive the requirement:

"That you have had no convictions of any kind and have no prosecutions pending." (3 pointer)

and

"That you are the main user of the car, it is not modified in any way, is Right Hand Drive and registered in your name." (LHD)

so probably not that likely ...

not much use for me, in Kent, with 3600cc and a supercharger, a ban a couple of years ago...
