I am not sure if anyone else is watching the live action The Last Airbender (and who also knows the original cartoon version). I am having mixed feelings as the casting seems very good, the special effects are pretty good and they have remained broadly true to the source material, but with some obvious and IMO unnecessary changes.
What I do find surprising is that although the run time is fairly similar (the live action has fewer but much longer episodes) it just seems that a lot has been left out in the live action and in particular character development, especially the building of the relationship between the main characters. Despite being as long the live action just feels rushed. I wonder whether this a general problem when trying to move from cartoon to live action.
