I had my brand new 992 protected with the L1 leather guard and the screen coated with the G1 clear vision stuff.

You're not meant to notice any difference with the leather guard, but it looks darker and fractionally more shiny.

The G1 'clear vision' is the polar opposite. Smeary with wiper judder.

All applied by a professional.

I was told it's amazing and Porsche UK recommend it .....I think it's rubbish and a complete waste of money!

Anyone else had this rubbish applied?

I thought everyone loved this stuff but I had the same experience as yourself, don’t really rate their products at all.

Tbh I’d steer clear of any leather products apart from the cleaners and then I’d use them very seldom, most treatments leave a sheen like a Sunday market seat cover.

Ha, ha....the sheen is ever so subtle, but none the less, I noticed it. Think it's gradually settling down.

The ceramic coating and wheel stuff is good....the car is so much easier to clean....but the other stuff....nah....snake oil!

Most car detailers don't seem to be able to wipe down a surface with a damp cloth...it has to be some kind of chemical that's been developed using NASA technology. Luckily enough none of the products used in my car smelt, so it still has the 'new car' smell. Guy said 'do you want the airfreshner.....I said NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

lol, it will soon settle and if your not happy I’d recommend the zymol leather cleaner and leave it at that! Their products are fantastic for anyone that enjoys a bit of detailing.

Thank you for the recommendation. I think I will just leave it. My previous Cayman I had from brand new never had any issues - I just used a damp cloth to wipe things down if needed.....but mostly a dry cloth would do...looked mint and still smelt new after 140K. I was seduced by the new cleaning technology....seems it's a load of rubbish!! I watched a video of a OPC coating every inch of a brand new 992 GT3 RS and thought 'God, nooooo!'

The leather comes with a coating from the factory anyway!

Tried a few leather cleaners and conditioners but have always gone back to Gliptone.

As for the glass, I recently recieved a free Gyron Q2 quick view rain repellent stick and applied it on my 992. It works great until you use the wipers and then, as you say, it makes them judder, so cleaned it off.

PIAA wipers are the best upgrade I've ever done to any car. They function by coating the screen with silicone as you use them, so vision gets better with more use.

Properly applied windscreen coatings are great. First time I applied my own it is did judder initially, but it was still better than without.

I have applied the G1 glass coating onto a couple of my cars and have found it to be excellent with zero judder. I guess some of it may be down to the preparation.

But also, part of the procedure is also to clean the wiper blades and also apply the coating onto the wiper blades as well. Potentially they have missed this step which is causing the issue.

My chap has applied to many...it seems to be hit and miss....he applied the stuff to the wipers too.

Thing is, it doesn't judder at all on a bone dry windscreen. Only when it rains!! Also doesn't judder when you squirt screen wash on it....but then the dreaded judder returns.

So I either only use the wipers when it's not raining or I use a whole reservoir of screen wash every time it rains. It's crap!!

I had the windscreen done as part of a ceramic coat when I bought my 991.2 about 6 years ago. I HATED it with a passion and couldn’t get it off, I tried glass polish, cleaners etc.

I found the beads just went to smaller beads when you used the wipers, when the sun hit it (big beads or smaller beads) you couldn’t see a thing. I’ve changed to a 992 now and would never do it again, just use a glass polish and a quick detailer after a wash, so much better

Thank you for your clarification! I hear on good authority that a certain percentage alcohol rub removes it. I will give me detailer a chance to remove it, but my fear is, he will delve into his box of branded bks of monkey chemicals and find something else to apply that will be equally as useless.

It's my own fault. I should have just driven it out of the dealership and washed it once a week in my usual fashion.

I tried their trim stuff on my previous car's scuttle, complete pants and faded quite quickly. I went old school and bought some polytrol and it sorted it out.

One last call. Detailer is arriving Wednesday and says it will take a few polishes on the windscreen to remove the absolutely awful G1 clear vision coating.

Anybody have a magic cure to remove this crap? How they are still selling this rubbish is beyond me!

I've also had rubbish results on my Cayman using G1. Best thing I found to remove it was a powder called Bar Keepers Friend, was recommended for removing windscreen rain repellent, but be very careful how you use it/where it gets applied to.

Ive tried a few different products over the years, but then recently tried Glaco Soft99 on my brand new Clios windscreen, and it's fantastic, best option I've found to date. So all being well, I'll also apply this to my 992.1 when the weather improves.

Yep, works a treat.

I've used the SOFT99 Ultra Glaco on my daily and it lasts over 6 months. https://www.amazon.co.uk/SOFT99-4146-Ultra-Glaco-7...

Like all of these things you need to stictly follow the application guide, which for Glaco means using their glass cleaner compound. It's also the best glass cleaner I've ever used. Don't just wash it off, it has a fine clay base compound which is a devil to fully remove from scuttles/window seals/driveways etc, so wipe most of it off with a few bits of damp kitchen towel, then wash off any remainder.

Expensive, but you'll get 3 or 4 full cleans/treatments out of it.
