My sister lives in Waterbeach and I think she looked into getting broadband, I should be going up there later today or maybe tomorrow, I'll try and find out for you!

I'm Newmarket and we are fully cabled up with NTL. However, used to have a friend in Ely until around 8 months ago - asked NTL if they were coming to Ely and the response was "not currently, maybe in 2005 or 2006, but due to the current financial situation all new cable laying is postponed". Therefore no NTL.

However, you could try BT with ADSL - not sure by I am sure that they can do something there. Its a big place with lots of people that commute so would be an area that would be worth considering....

Cheers,

Paul

P.S. Alternatively move to Newmarket or Cambridge.

Well, it's going to boil down to NTL or ultimately BT. Get to the BT broadband site and stuff your postcode in their broadband checker. If you can't have it yet, *register your interest*. If enough people do so for a particular exchange, BT are supposed to be taking notice and enabling them for ADSL.

Pity NTL are in such shite shape: 5 years ago, they were laying cable as new estates were built, and Ely looks like new-estate-land every time I go near it. NTL must be missing out on boatloads of new customers, ironically 'cos they can't afford to invest in the infrastructure. Pah.

And they're just down the A10 from Ely. Crazy.

PS. Graham: most of Waterbeach is cabled, so your sister should have no problem getting a cable modem there.
