Any tips for rear number plate adhesion

Should hopefully get a replacement rear number plate next week (finally) and was wondering what people would recommend as the adhesive to hold the little blighter in place

Any special brand of tape ? or other suggestions

My best suggestion is not to get "Craig plates" to manufacture a rear plate. They had 3 attempts to make a satisfactory one, and failed every time. They threw the towel in last week and will be giving me a refund. 5 weeks from the date of initial order I was no further forward. I have gone somewhere else now.

I glued my nice new plate on with silicone. However it fell off within 10 miles and a new one had to be ordered. This was stuck on with double sided tape applied all the way around all four edges and has remained there ever since.

Incidentally I got my plate and tape from Goulds Autoplates and Signs in Nailsea, Bristol, £25 and done while I waited.

I would suggest you don’t stick it on, but use screws. B&Q do plenty with captive nut’s that are easy to fit. You never know when you might need to get it off again

I got a pukka TVR backlit plate made up by fancyplates and they got it right first time. But then it was pretty easy to do and I didn't expect any problems. The cool bit is the backlit aspect - not so easy to source these days so I'm told.

I stuck it on with double side tape top and bottom. Took me a while though as the tape I had was wider than the border available and I had to cut it down length ways (easiser said than done) so as not to interfear with the backlighting.

The garage that provided my original plate actually used a spay on adhesive and frankly I'm surprised it stayed on at all.

I've just refitted my rear plate after some fresh paintwork. I used the adhesive tape that's used for fitting double glazed window units into their frames.

It's about 1.5 mm thick/15mm wide black foam rubber and self adhesive both sides. I've got miles of the stuff so if you want some let me know and I'll get it to ya.

You may also find that whoever supplied your plates may have included something in the package.

I used double sided tape I bought a roll of from Halfords ,Its been on two years with no problems and the tape is fairly narrow so no reducing the width,good luck Steve.

Had puka back lite plate made up to get car through the MOT .... that was a self adhesive plate... only lasted 3 weeks.... feel off somewhere.

Back to illegal type face, solid plate at the moment stuck on with double side sellotape sticky foam type stuff from Homebase

Had mine supplied by fancyplates and they also supplied a range of screws and sticky stuff with the plate. I used the sticky stuff ...no probs so far.The one I took off was attached with a couple of self tappers at the far ends .

Tanks for the tips chaps

New plate arrived today.

Came from Fancy plates in NI. The numbers are printed on the acrylic, avoiding the crap looking halo effect around the stuck on letters and the back is not self adhesive which means it will not discolour over time. Ordered Friday arrived today.

They got it spot on first time, unlike craigplates who took 3 attempts and failed everytime.

Big thumbs up to them (and no I'm not on commision)

what he said also, Fancyplates are spot on but i think you might find the white backing peels off to reveal a sticky back but i used the sticky pads anyway. Just make sure you ordered the TVR backlit plate.
