I paid my HMRC tax bill middle of January this year (i.e. before the end Jan deadline) BUT stupidly I managed to pay the full bill less 27p which I have now paid.

I have no idea how this happened but it did.

Will I get a standard HMRC fine for not paying in full on time? Thanks.

Bill Roach (aka Ken Barlow) owes north of half a million, I reckon you'll be ok.

Haha!

I'm just curious if my few pence late will trigger a fine?

Late submission of your self assessment triggers the £100 fine.

Late payment of what's owed triggers interest payments - you might be looking at 5% - could be as much as 2p..............I think you'll be ok.

Time to relocate, your life will be over. I suggest the Antarctic, they'll never think of there.

If the bill remained outstanding at 1 March, they will levy a 5% surcharge. This is not interest but a form of penalty. Obviously, with the amount being so small, it won't amount to much anyway.

But interest will also be added every month.

Thank you for precision answer as always.
