Plague of Electric motorbikes (Sur-Rons) beginning ?

Anyone else seen these knocking about ?

I personally hadn't seen many except for on the news when one crashes or Insta videos of them doing wheelies, but have seen three in the last week when out and about in South Manchester, all the same with a rider with no helmet and either a balaclava or a bandana and ridden pretty badly. Seemed to usually be the preserve of deprived areas but seems to be spreading out.

I left my car overnight after a wedding in Bramhall last Friday night, thought would have a ride on my bicycle to go and get it Saturday morning, not far and as a nice day. Was passing through the town centre of Bramhall car was turning right and I was on the inside going past, and one of these goes up onto the pavement past me and the car waiting and then drops back onto the road rather than wait, was going fairly quickly and it was pretty busy being Saturday morning.

These things weigh between 50 and 80 kilos and will do 60/70 mph and in most cases are not registered or insured.

Have you seen many of them ? Can sort of overlook the odd kid on a slightly overpowered E bike but this is basically a slient dirt bike and the Police dont seem to have any ways to combat it (yet)

Some seem to think its just kids having fun, boys will be boys etc but they are a liability

Police are going to have to use drone tech’, follow scrote and note destination stop. Follow up in car and nick said scrote. Bike goes off to auction house.

If I was a farmer, that seized auction bike would be a good purchase as it would not scare the livestock as much as a pen troll bike.

Loads round our way. Although most are cheap Chinese imports, the type that burn your house down when you plug them in.

Most often ridden 2 up in balaclavas. Ridden with complete impunity.

I've heard they're the perfect vehicle for running drugs. Can zip down alleyways and likely light enough to lift over barriers etc. Must be a doddle evading the Police on one.

Jeez, where do you live? I'm in one of the most deprived Scottish towns every day and I never see this. We are so lucky up here!!

I took these in Oldham a few weeks back, on a main road all masked up. There were around 20 of them.

I rang the Police and they said "Oh right" and put the phone down.

Boys will be boys.

No insurance, no helmets, no reg plates, wheelies, intimidating people, nah they never bother. Next time say they were chanting anti-trans slogans and the police will soon sort them out.

What did you want the Police to do? By the time they get there the miscreants will be long gone. The only way to keep a check or trace these things is for people who know about them to tell the authorities, but that would be "grassing", which seems to be the lowest of the low on PH.

They're a thing in Edinburgh too with groups riding on 1 wheel, wearing balaclavas, shouting at people and being a nuicance. They don't wear helmets so hopefully they won't be around for long. Although I've seen illegal e-bike riders in glasgow, I've not seen quite the same sort of nuiciance behaviour as the group I saw when I went through to edinburgh recently.

No different to the 80's and 90's when I grew up in deprived areas. They just had old crossers back then that hardly worked. I have seen some pretty dangerous riding on them in all seriousness, mainly from young kids whose parents had probably bought them. Riding on the road, no helmets, overtaking cars and riding on the wrong side of the road, well because.....

Its no surprise that there are several incidents of kids dying on these on the roads.

Lost one kid in our town recently. Not an electric bike just a cruddy supermoto style thing, based on what his mates were riding when they rode past (again without helmets) the death site to pay 'respect'.

We have all types of electrically powered road-ninjas around here. No lights, all dressed in black and going from road to pavement and back whenever it suits and always without looking.

I think these are almost exclusively confined to urban areas and city centres. Same with the gangs of blinged up quads.

I spend a lot of time mtbing out on the moors and trails and I’ve never seen one. I’ve seen “real” enduro and trail bikes though being ridden almost always responsibly.

These are the future of motoring.

If 85% of cars vanished tomorrow, they'd be replaced by eBikes and there would be a massive improvement in congestion and a massive reduction in emissions.

50 MPH, 50 miles range, a quarter the price and a tenth the operating cost. Plus more connection to the road than even an expensive sports car.

Don't complain about them. Buy one.

Sur Rons aren't exactly cheap though are they?

So must be parents buying these things for the kids, but from what I have seen (and electric scooters also), shops are pretty clear in saying on for use on private land.

So who's to blame, must be the parents if they're ignoring the law that is spelt out in store.

Luckily none where I live so far, or not that I have seen. I've seen the odd scooter but still really limited.

I've heard of a few incidents in forests/MTB trail centres but again it doesn't seem to be policed.
