Just in case anyone was still wondering:

From the Independent:

“ A huge blaze inside a multi-storey car park at Luton Airport started by accident, a new report has found.
An investigation by Bedfordshire Police and Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Service into last October’s fire discovered that ‘all evidence’ pointed towards the cause most probably ‘being an electrical fault or component failure’ in the engine bay while the vehicle was moving.
The fire and rescue service said in a statement that the cause was accidental.
According to the report, the owner tried to stop the fire but it spread to other components and then to other parked vehicles.
The report also concluded that the car had a diesel engine, and stated that ‘it was not a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle’, quashing widespread internet claims that the blaze was started by a battery-powered model.”

The aftermath of the Luton fire was fascinating. Led by channels like GeoffClickbaitsMorons we had endless people insisting that diesel doesn’t burn and that the smoke colour was wrong and that it’s clearly a battery fire and that and that and that.

You then pole a stick at where the lithium battery would be if that car had one (not where the fire is) and they just screeched. That and the registration plate showing a V6 diesel.

The most bizarre thing - the insistence that car parks don’t just collapse because of fuel fires. Despite the Liverpool one a few years ago where exactly that happened. They are fixated by EVs - a threat to their world view or perhaps their manhood. And so say practically anything - however absurd - to avoid the truth.

I expect the replies will pivot to ‘well sure it MAY have started in a diesel (still don’t believe it 100%/ fake news/ MSM) but then all those EVs caught fire and that was the real
problem!’

The trouble is to some people the damage has already been done by the fake news of problems with batteries and even now some people won’t get the message.

It's a form of magical thinking: 'if I believe things (which make me feel good) hard enough, they're true!'. That’s also why they’re impervious to facts.

On the way back from dropping my daughter at Uni, after stopping for my 9 minute DC top up at a convenient Instavolt hub (3 chargers all free), when I got to the M25 I passed a car on fire being doused by the fire brigade.

Pretty sure it was a Fiat Panda.

That’s the 2nd car fire I’ve witnessed in a week (both ICE vehicles).

What was that thing about the pleural of anecdotes?

1. People said "look at those flames, they aren't fuel. Its a BATTERY"
2. You point out that its a diesel and doesn't have a lithium battery
3. They show a graphic showing there was a mild hybrid petrol with a battery under the seats. "SEE, SEE"
4. You point out that the flames are coming from under the bonnet, not from under the seats

Its laughable.

People were even saying that diesel isn't flammable.

A close mate of mine lost a diesel Ford Kuga to fire last April, it just spontaneously burst into flames and he had to jump out pretty sharpish on the side of a busy dual carriageway and call the fire brigade, within a minute or two it was totally ingulfed in flames. The fire that started in the engine bay spread through the cabin at which point it was a plastic/rubber fire, with the fire brigade putting it out before the actual fuel in the tank went up, as my mate was able to retrieve a laptop bag from the boot relatively unscathed. People weren't stopping to take pictures and I don't recall it going viral.

With as much respect as I can muster, your name is JustGetATesla and your entire posting history is obsessively pushing EV's down people's throats. I would much rather have a forum full of anti EV luddites than someone like you.

Dispelling myths, misinformation and sometimes lies is not pushing.

It gets extremely tiresome when those people who do not like EVs cannot just live with that fact but insist in posting their un-evidenced prejudice.

I have a YouTube channel of the same name. Even that is not pushing EVs down anyone's throat - the strapline is "Thinking about getting an EV? Just Get A Tesla" - if you're not thinking about EVs, don't.

I also post and comment about previous cars - I was defending Volvo against the charge of being boring as one example.

Those bullst clickbait channels are becoming a danger. Youtube really needs a robust 'community notes' type system which demonetises such channels when they post lies.

That's the only thing that will stop them as so many channels have realised they can make crazy bank from doing this.

Meanwhile in Dubai (last week)...

A fuel tanker crashed into a truck and this happened:

I get that a battery fire is pretty bad, but then so is a petrol/diesel one.
