Hi,

We have a break in the middle of April and I'm thinking about a drive upto the mountains to maybe see a bit of snow as my little man will love it.

Where is the closest location to Nice for seeing potential snow? Am I risking it with a rental car driving up to the resorts?

You'll be fine in a rental unless it's actually snowing heavily.

There will still be snow above 2000m. If you want to guarantee it then Val Thorens might be your best bet.

Not sure how far from Nice it is though.

Nearest to Nice is probably Isola, it goes above 2000m so show should be there in parts, but its not an attractive town. Its about an hours drive, with great scenery. There's a good coach service from central nice but unsure of timings out of the ski season, good for scenery gazing.

This place looks to be about the right option thanks, April google maps has snow on the ground so should be some up there.
, you'll get some good Alps scenery views as well!

As already mentioned, it’s Isola 2000 which is the nearest ski resort to Nice. I used to contract here for a ski company offering short breaks, so I know it well.

The resort itself is pretty small, purpose-built and fairly non-descript, not a chocolate box Alpine village. The ski season finishes 14th April so worth bearing in mind as it’ll be a ghost town afterwards!

Fairly easy drive from memory, and the views from the top of the runs are beautiful.

Yes we'll only have a drive/walk about I expect and then back to the coast.

It’s definitely picturesque and on a sunny/clear day will be lovely for a walk around.

Looks like a white out there today on the webcams so maybe there will still be snow around too if temperatures remain low.

Yes they have a massive amount of Atlantic rain coming in but snow in the mountains. It says the Pyrenees are getting about a metre.
