What is a "cheap" meal?

This morning I have just come across this article - Best restaurants for cheap meals. One of the recommendations, is Tom Kerridges "Butchers Tap and Grill" which has two locations, Marlow and Chelsea. Is it cheap? Well, I will let you make up your mind.

From the example above, you can have burger and chips for £20.
I'd bet that M* chefs eat more Waitrose ready meals than any other occupational group.
They rarely (if ever) go out, because they don't have the time. If they do eat out, it's whatever's to hand at the rugby / cricket club. Or Waitrose No 1 pizza with feet up in front of the telly. In truth.
Though I'd be interested to see the 'recommendations' for Surrey. At sub £20 a head, that's a kebab.

Legend Kebab Centre in Ewell - £8. I've eaten a bit too much from there recently. Not because lazy but because I kept having cravings for doner kebabs.I don't know why they call it a kebab centre. There's the Kingston Kebab Centre, too. It's not like you can have a meeting there or something.

Something to be said for a consistent, simple, cheap product and reasonable service.

Sky have been running that same article every week. Its essentially an advert. The girl who works at one of Kerridges Marlow places just so happens to pick another of his places in Marlow. Funny that. I think I've seen this article on at least 3 weekends now. I've nothing against Tom Kerridge himself but I went into the Butchers Tap when it opened but it was a bit weird having a drink while having the smell of an old school Butchers at the same time with a singer a bit like Sinatra style. Funny enough a Wetherspoons is due to open in Marlow at some point.

the last time we dined in the kitchen at Sat Bain's restaurant we were talking to one of the chefs about what sort of food he usually eats and his responses was usually after his shift he gets 20 nugget box from mcdonald's and shares that with his GF. If we're talking Surrey for around £20 a head, the William Bray in Shere takes some beating in my opinion. They do mains such as "8oz beef burger with bacon, melted cheese, crispy onion and chips" for £17.50, and this bears no comparison with the sort of thing you'd get in McDonalds. I've heard similar from a chef friend. You spend so many hours of your life surrounded by gourmet food that at the end of it all you want is something cheap and unpretentious. With the occasional request when they come round for dinner of, "please, don't do anything fancy, the thing I miss more than anything is good solid home cooking"

One chef told me that it was his go-to for a chain. The ingredients are pretty high quality, the pizzas are not overloaded and it is a consistent experience. Often they have some very nice locations (like Wetherspoons). Personally, I'd go for this:
Ockley Farmer's Market 10-2 on the first Sunday of the month.
Venison burgers are £10, sourdough meaty pizza £12, last time I checked.
It's all a bit haphazard, but that's half of the fun. Local cheeses too.
