Need to own a car for 1 year

I am in need of an upgrade and larger vehicle, but due to a move abroad, I am only needing something for 12 - 18 ish months.

I know I will lose money, that’s the nature of the beast, but I am thinking a good option would be something that has done a lot of its depreciation, so me adding 10,000 miles over 12 months and keeping it in good nick wouldn’t be a huge hit. I would also then want something relatively desirable and easy to sell at the other end. Some form of warranty (approved used) would also hopefully make it a stress free time.

Want something relatively big for a dog and baby (Due in May and main reason for upgrade).

£30k top end budget.

Have quickly shortlisted:

2016-2018 Macan
L405 Range
X3, Q5, Touareg (not precious but don’t know enough about specific models at this moment in time)
Maybe something electric that has done a good amount of depreciating.

Any purchase routes that I may have missed would be appreciated, similarly any models that fit my criteria would be great.

Good man maths there, id just buy a cheap shed estate and run that. Save your money.

Bear in mind when it's time to move you won't have time to wait for the right buyer, and could end up losing shiploads due to desperation. Buy a cheap shed.

18 month lease. Brand new car, no worries about selling at the end, cheaper than tying up £30k.

Lease or (semi-)shed would be my suggestion. With a £30k car you may end up losing £10k at least if you palm it off to WBAC etc in 12/18 months. With a perfectly good £10k car (loads of decent looking E-Class estates etc for that money which ticks dog/child duties easily), you'll lose far less in 12/18 months, few grand maybe worst case.

Personal preference really, if I was in similar position, L405 range would be nice if you got a warranty but potential for bad depreciation.

No need for a big estate for a kid, I have 3 kids and a medium sized hatchback no issues.

If you don't want to lose money in a short period... Focus RS.

Although as said above, maybe an E class sized car is OTT (depending on how big the hound is?). A C-Class sized thing may be as good...

Buy something cheap, reliable and easy to shift. Last shed of a car I ran was basically free motoring for a year. I sold it for more than I paid even though I put 10k on it.

When you're moving you're presumably going to want something until right before you go?

Shed means you're maybe not going to be fretting about moving something on at the 'right' time.

I have 1 kid and filled an E-class estate on a fairly regular basis.

If you only needed 12 months max I'd be suggesting a shed with a year on the MOT.

If your planning to transport a dog in it, then that will certainly knock £000’s off the value for starters.
